Title: Vitamin E and Aloe Vera on Shavers !!
Post by: neilep on 20/06/2006 23:24:51
Wocha fellow Shaver Users,

Whilst I was away for a few days I treated myself to some throw-away wet Razors....

In fact, this is the very one I used this morning ...

(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv185%2Fneilep%2FDSC02454.jpg&hash=fa60e526d258e1d31fe3197db76ea9aa)

How do they get The Aloe Vera and Vitamin E in the shown strips ?...and what do they do ?.....well...I can understand about the Aloe Vera ( though an explanation would be be great for non Aloe Vera knowing peeps)......but Vitamin E ??...can you really receive Vitamin E goodness from a close shave ?....What does the Vit E do to the newly abused shaven skin ?

Should I be rubbing myself with other vitamins too ?[:)]

You know Neil, When I was pregnant the doc had me rub Vitamin E on my tummy, he said it helped reduce stretch marks. Also after my Neice was attacked in the face by a huge dog. Doctor had her use vitamin e caplets broke in half to rub into her scar to help keep the scar elastic not hard. She also had to keep sun block on all the time to make the scar way less noticable. So maybe it is to help healing or toning of the skin. maybe it keeps your skin supple, like a conditioner! I have the same thing on my refills for the old legs. It does seem to make them smoother feeling, so my guess would be conditioning. Just a guess, but I really don't know any more then you....Karen

Karen...I am sure you are right. The examples you cite all tie in with the nature of the razor......I am sure that shaving is very hard on the skin...especially when it's as smooth and sensitive as a babys bottom like mine is !![;)]

THANK YOU Wonder Lady

....I'm still puzzled as to how they ' impregnate ' the strips on the razor with it....perhaps they just add vitamin E Powder during the manufacturing process but it's the deployment of the Vitamin E from the strip to the skin that also really interests me.

Guys the only vitamin E I have ever seen is in an oil form, Liquid capsule. Perhaps the strips are soaked in the oil and dried. Then as you add moisture to shave , Voilla! You should do your own science experiment. Soak a cosmetic strip in vitamin E oil, allow to dry. Get an aloe plant and smear a bit , or squeeze a bit from it onto your other strip. Allow them both to dry and then add a few drops of H20 to your face and apply the two moistened strips after shaving. See if you get the same effect! I love aloe! Get yourself an aloe plant and keep it nice and healthy. Break peces off as you need to apply to skin after sunburning or on abrasions. It really seems to speed healing. Helping the skin to recouperate. It's good for many things.
Loretta check out your medicinal Herb book you were reading. If aloe isn't in there get a better book! There are tons of things you can use aloe for including drinking I believe. Herbalife makes a light drink with aloe that is supposed to aid in something with weight loss. I think it is some kind of cleansing tea. I tried it for awhile years ago. Taste was not spectacular, but not horrible either!....Karen

I have read a lot of aloe...it is a great agent for burns. It is a plant that forgives us for our stupidity...hehe but it is the strips I am not sure about? Adding water to an oil...? Not sure about that one...I am buying some of these razors soon to see if there is a difference or not...it could be just some little gimmick that they are gaming us with...? I have used the oil, love it! I have used the capsules,...love them...Yes, aloe is for drinking too...I have had some of that...ick! Yuck! cough, cough...lol I went to the natural foods store and tried it....shuddering thinking about it now...

Isn't that funny, It was not the best tasting stuff I have ever had in my mouth that was for sure. Sounds like you are reading the right stuff Loretta. I do love those books so much. They have alot of good information. I never thought about the water, but I have never had any trouble with water rolling off a spot where I have applied aloe, but I can't recall ever thinking about it really! Must test this out!

You got that right! I think you want to find all those hearty brain foods, Not that I know what they are, as you can surely see! HEHEHE! Certainly wasn,t those greasy old fries and burger I just ate from carls, I only managed the fries and about 3 bites of the burger! Yick, I am stuffed and don't feel well! Not used to so much grease these days! Aloe drink would probably be good about now!

Fish...fish, and more fish...brain food for sure. Healthier you eat the better...also, you are to eat "live food" meaning raw veggies and fruits more than boiled or any other way..

Karen, you need to think of astringents such as lemons..lemonade may do the trick...i wonder if cucumbers would be good for that as well...watermelon with all the water content...take it easy on the system..that aloe is really nothing desirable...ick...lol it does have good health benefits, but that taste...hmmm, i wonder if you could mix it in carrot, apple juice or something to cut that taste down a bit...

I agree, I did not like it much either. I could drink it, but not easily. I always had to drink fast and chase it with water.
I eat tons of cucumbers and watermelon is my favorite. I love cantelope and honey dew also. We can grow all here.

I bet you could change up the flavor if you needed to. I don't like the aloe drink enough to buy it. It was tough! Lately I am a water girl. Occasional rasberry snapple. Mostly water. Milk at dinner sometimes. I love punch but drink it rarely. At a party or something. Lemon aide gives me killer heartburn as does orange juice, but I can eat a dozen oranges and not get it.
Hey Neil do you have an aloe plant to experiment with?

Hmmm, I was thinking with the benefits of aloe maybe we could add some flavor or rather add it as flavour.

for the grease agent...I was thinking of these fruits to pull that mess away from your esophagus. I drink tons of water, love punch, and all the juices...

Thanks Ladies.....[:X]

It's a shame that no one really knows (for definite) how the razor deploys the aloe Vera and vitamin E onto the skin...but I suspect we must have touched upon it, that just somehow a residue is left when it's rubbed against the skin.....but then, after shaving would not my rinsing wash it off ?...hmmm..I presume it must be absorbed..

Oh Well & ho Hum [:)]

i am sure it is absorbed, especially the vitamin E. It really is good stuff. Kind of oily you know?
Title: Re: Vitamin E and Aloe Vera on Shavers !!

I think...maybe I am wrong...that it maybe a gimmick..I have yet to try it, but will..as I don't see how it could be absorbed from a plastic strip on razor when it is rubbing inside a plastic cover...but will let you know what i think based upon my own findings and is it enough to cover all the skin where you shave???

Razors leave drag marks and can irratate the skin, where you have shaved. So when the strips contact that irrated skin, It conditions it smoothing a coating over them leaving them fresh. I am falling asleep here. I feel this crushing since of sleep. Good night friends! Wow its only 9:07PM. We will see! nighty -nite....karen

Mine has the same strips. If the skin absorbs the oils, Neil, wouldn't that tend to repell the rinse a bit. So maybe the natural ability of oil to repell water would leave enough on the skin to do some light conditioning ehhhh!

My sweet, handsome, baby faced, son is 13 and has had to start shaving. It's only been a month or so, but I'm noticing a difference in his skin. His once "baby faced" skin is becoming rougher. I HATE IT. I know this is a bit off the subject, but doesn't 13 seem to young to start shaving?

KAREN: I think you're absolutely right about the repelling qualities of the oil. Very well reasoned out Mam

CAROLYN: I think I was about 13 when I started growing stubble...the way my twelve year old son is growing I think he'll be shaving soon too. *le sigh* I guess it's one of those landmark events that demonstrate the development of our children....It makes you not want to let go doesn't it ?

I still think we should see what the strips are actually made of, are they something absorbant that can absorb the aloe and Vit. E oil.

"Picture this,, a large assembly line that rolls large quanities of an absorbant material down its line, running it through a large bath of Vitamin E solution, probably not concentrated, then rolled out onto a large screen where it is put in a low temp oven or similar device to dry, then sent through another line to then have a backing placed onto its backside for mounting on razors, then sent through a giant machine that cuts them into tiny strips and yet another station that then through the miracle of technology mounts them onto the razor in said positions! Does that sound reasonable?...Karen

LOL Karen, you have me visually seeing things like that as I just visited an assembly line not too long ago for different type of products.

Carolyn, just a thought...yes, it is too early for kids now days to be doing that, my kids were doing the same thing at home at his age...girls are developing quicker as well. Our milk has changed as I know you can probably think back to when you were a kid or you may not be as old as me I just thought of that...but thought at one time you were three years younger than me...hmmm, i am 43. Milk is being produced quicker as they are pumping more hormones/steroids through their food into the cows so they will produce up to 3 times as much milk in a day because of supply and demand..which then in turn causes kids to move quicker into puberty...I read this somewhere and can't remember what article please forgive me as I have a 40's something moment..I can't stand milk now as I used to love it when I was a kid...the taste does not taste right to me...

Men are the same as women, just inside out !

I shave daily and my skin is getting rougher everyday even if i am using the skin creams for moisturize my face. I saw redness on my face everytime i uses my shaver to shave. I met to my local doctor and they suggested me to use some moisturizing gel. i bought it and found the composition of that is highly build usin Aloe Vera. I realizes that there is 60% of Aloe vera present in the moisturizer. I used for a week and now my skin is getting smoother once again.

Other than Aloe Vera, Vitamin E is also important for better skin and it is also included in the moisturizer. Unfortunately i went to the nearest shop to look for this kind of shaver but can't found one. the shop keeper said, it will arrive soon.
