Title: Should I recharge a phone when the battery level falls to 30%?
Post by: neilep on 01/09/2010 13:30:59
Dearest Lithium Battery-ologists,

gosh..ewe know your stuff ewe do !...how are ewe anyway ?
I'm ok...thought I had a cold coming on but it was just a runny olfactory organ......serves me right for sticking chillies up my nose eh ?

see this phone ?

..nice eh ? Delivered last Tuesday. It has a power source called a Lithium Ion battery in it...which is nice !

One of the tips on the phone says "modern day lithuim ion batteries do not like being depleted completely and that you will in fact extend the battery life  by charging when the remaining charge falls to about 30% " !...why's this then ?....and yet..in contrary to this I recently heard that every once in a while ewe should let the battery run out completely .

suffice it to say I'm a confused sheepy !

So, Why Does Recharging The Battery When It Reaches 30% Remaining Extend It's Life ?

Ewe see, I just do not know...I'd like to know !

please help me know.

Hugs and shmishes

mwah mwah mwah !

Neil
It's A real Phone, Not A Phoney Phone !

Nickel cadmium batteries should be fully discharged from time to time. Not sure about lithium ion batteries though. Each type has some sort of limitation associated with the particular chemistry.

I saw a new type the other day. Think they were made by Sanyo. Apparently they don't lose much of their charge if they are left on the shelf for a long time. That seems to be a big problem with many of the current rechargeable technologies.

Anyway, if it was up to me, all these batteries would be banned and portable devices would have to be hand (or foot) cranked. This would cut down on a lot of the silly calls people make, it would also be good exercise for everyone, and it would keep a lot of toxic crap out of the trash.

Also, when anyone was making a silly call, we could point it out to our friends and say,

"Look at that stupid cranker."

Hee hee !!

...and looking at someone from behind whilst they were sitting 'cranking' one off (making a clockwork call !) would look funny !!
