Dearest Fistologists and All Those with Experience of Fists and Fist Related Stuff,

See This Clenched Fist ?

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

Nice eh ?..being used in a trouser-joy department next Tuesday !

In the mean time, whilst I was doing my treadmill fun today (8.5 miles) I decided to clench it as above...Weird sensations when I clenched it really really tight !...First it's cold, yes, it " feels " cold then as I relax my clenched fist , a sudden dullness then a rush of pins and needles !

What's that all about ?, why these changing sensations, especially the cold one ?
..happens to both hands when clenched really hard !

Ewe see, I do not know the answer...I think I'd like to know...so, I thought, why not ask those nice peeps on TNS ? they're a gold old hardy bunch of fine Fillys and Fellas !

Hugs and shmishes

Haha, okay. That's good. I ran 7 miles once and more then have way threw it I was running 11 miles and hour. =D ha. But, I'm not sure to the answer of your question.. It's sorta like one of mine I've always wondered about. Put your fingertips to figuretips. one hand's fingernails under the others and start moving them in and out. thumbs in/fingers in, then just do it out. keep doing it purdy fast and it feels like theres glass inbetween your hands. its purdy werid ha

Lack of peripheral circulation could be due to the vasoconstrictive effects of adrenaline due to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)...

Quote
Hypoglycemic symptoms and manifestations can be divided into those produced by the counterregulatory hormones (epinephrine/adrenaline and glucagon) triggered by the falling glucose, and the neuroglycopenic effects produced by the reduced brain sugar.

Adrenergic manifestations

Shakiness, anxiety, nervousness, tremor
Palpitations, tachycardia
Sweating, feeling of warmth
Pallor, coldness, clamminess
Dilated pupils* (mydriasis)
Feeling of numbness "pins and needles" (parasthaesia) in the fingers

You could taper off the amount you run each day as you approach your target weight.
If you are experiencing a "runners high" it may be difficult to give up running suddenly when you reach your target weight.

When exercise becomes unhealthy

Exercise addiction or abuse was first analyzed by Dr. William P. Morgan in 1979. Morgan studied runners and discovered that excessive exercise can cause physical and mental harm. Since then, researchers have learned that recreational and serious athletes in any sport can abuse exercise.
People who abuse exercise exhibit three common characteristics:

Excessive reliance on exercise.
Continuation of exercise when injured or sick.
Withdrawal symptoms when exercise levels are decreased or temporarily halted.

[* you could compare close-up photos of your pupils taken immediately before and immediately after your long runs.
These photos would have to be taken under exactly the same lighting conditions to be a fair comparison]

Certainly he should NOT give up the running or fast walking at target weight because the run/walking will help him maintain his target weight and not get back into old habits of not exercising....Is that not true?

HAve you thought about Carple tunnel perhaps causing that lack of sensation and the circulation being cut off by such a tight grip? That would lead to the tingling sensation as the blood flows back into the lower hand as it circulates back through the hand after the squeezed fist cut off the circulation!

When one cuts off circulation to a limb or hand, it causes the limb to become cold due to the lack of circulation, or blood flow... It cannot remain warm and flowing when cut off like that...

Certainly he should NOT give up the running or fast walking at target weight because the run/walking will help him maintain his target weight and not get back into old habits of not exercising....Is that not true?

A diet-exercise regime which is causing weight-loss cannot continue indefinitely: after target weight is achieved it will be necessary to reduce exercise or increase calorie intake (or both) in order to maintain target weight.

Unless you wish to spend 2 hours a day on a treadmill for the rest of your days, the practical solution would be to taper off the amount of exercise as target weight approaches.
