Despite having four little bra....children myself.....it is in fact not so easy to for a girlie to get preggy ?
This is why is takes just one out of a zillion little tads to get there and sort it out !
So, why is that then ?..why make the nature of procreation in fact quite difficult if the premise of a species is to multiply ?
I expect there has to be a measure of control else they'd be a population explosion !..so...has nature decided that rather than control the urge to procreate....that it'll just be difficult hence the numbers of little tads ?
This question is not particular to just humans..
Me wants to know cos me wants to know....whajafink ?

Yes.. I would like to help ya Neil, but I don't get what you're asking of me.. What is the question you actually need asking? I can't quite.. see. [::)]

Hi seany,
The question i am asking is why is it in fact difficult to fall pregnant when the premise for a species is to multiply ?
....and secondly..why has nature decided to deal with the difficulty by giving us blokes millions of sperm..?...why not give us ten but make them real good swimmers ?...
That's what me wants to know... [;)]

Lmao, to your second question.. I think that may be because, within the 10 swimmers, all may reach the egg, resulting in a decaprillet oh whatever..
Also, giving us millions of sperm, means that only the strongest and fittest out of those million, will eventually reach the egg. This means that the foetus, which is soon to develop, will be more strong at birth and throughout their life. Which is why we are all living strong and fit!
To your first question. I think it may be because, us humans are alot different compared to other animals and mammals. We have a different aim in life than to multiply like viruses, bacteria, butterflies and etc. Thus, I think it is harder to reproduce.
I'm not sure about these btw.

Btw Neil, why do you always look offline, and in the online users, you are "hidden"?

HUMMMM another good question..Perhaps there is more over a reasonwhy there are so many spern and norma;;y 1 egg, multiple births being the exception.. perhaps to insure multiple eggs also have a chance at conception! Maybe more ssssperm are better swimmers in groups, perhaps they are competitive little fellows, or perhaps the amount of sperm somehow relates to the mans strong sex drive or something equally as silly! LOL Maybe it depends on the amount of stemuli the male feels as to how much sperm he produces... Is the amount the same with each ejaculation ? Does it vary with different stimuli, woman verses sample in a cup? You know what I mean.. are there the same number of sperm per event regaurdless of the motivation so to speak? Sorry for all the questions but would that actually change the outcome on the sperm count and if so why?

Lol, Karen.. I'm having a hard time visualizing your text. But, please don't help me with it! [:P] LOL

if i remember correctly! most women who are having sex will get pregnant each month, but there are slight abnormalities and the eggs are aborted.
-
I do believe you are correct as I have heard that similar thing.. although I don't recall the details! LOL Are you two safely home?
-
I will just lurk around this question. I have no more to offer. [:P] Because I have no personal knowledge of my own. [:D]

yes the aggs are aborted, and the woman never knew she was pregnant. we are home safe thanks. shes playing with friends at the mo.

Hey, wheres Neil? Hes meant to be "listening" to our comments! How rude. [:P]
EDIT: Btw, don't turn me into a cabbage again Neil!

Why, did they go somewhere unsafe? [:(]

Do you not wish your friends safty when they are traveling? I always have..

I find it odd that no one has touched on external factors that may reduce ferility. What about poor diet, lack of exercise, pollution, drugs, etc...

This has been mentioned once before as there have been some rather disconcerting news items of late that the sperm count is indeed reducing !!
-
What about reducing fertility..?
-
Sperm count is reducing?
-
Traffic pollution damages sperm and may reduce fertility in young and middle-aged men, reveals an Italian study of motorway tollgate attendants.
The attendants, who spend six hours a day sitting in a roadside booth, showed poorer sperm quality than men of the same age living in the same area but not exposed to the same level of exhaust fumes.
Researchers blamed nitrogen oxides and lead for the adverse effects. Although the sperm counts of tollgate workers were normal, their sperm performed less well in tests measuring the ability to reach and penetrate an egg.

Scratch that above post, this site explains all factors that could interfer with fertility..

Hey, that was worth reading. Although a bit too young for me [:D]

some time back i heard that one possible reason for the declining sperm count was estrogen in the water.

Really ( yet another ' really' for Paul)...why is there estrogen in water ?..is this down to girlie's polluting the water table now ! ?
-
There's probably a spatial issue here, as well. The uterus is a big place for a little sperm to get lost in. The more sperm present, the more sperm are likely to find the egg.

THANK YOU DRDICK.
This then again makes me wonder why nature chose that way with such huge numbers !!...well ..clearly it's the right way unless evolution has gone all wrong.....The Uterus could have been made smaller !!.....and if indeed the number of sperm are depleting then it's just as well we have a few million of them...unlike the ten I suggested earlier. !!........ten good hearty strong ones though of course !!

yes, due to the high levels in the female contraceptive....also not everything i say is made up and therefore does not warrent so many really's [;)]

the male contraceptive would have cured this. it was designed to make the head of the sperm too big to enter.

not sure what happened to it, it just seemed to fizzle out. it could be that they did not see a big profit, how may men would take it? plus how may women would trust the man to take it?
i think it would have to be one of those shots in the arm as opposed to an oral daily pill

agreed !!......besides...its' the girlies responsibility...and they know it !! [;D]....they must be compliant and grateful...like all good girlies !! [;)]
-
just a thought...but could the pill (oral contraceptive) be classed as a recreational drug!!!
-
What's an oral contraceptive?
-
What's an oral contraceptive?
it's tablet that girlies take to stop them becoming pregnant http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_contraceptive
-
Oh.. So basically it's like an abortion, but without a foetus made yet?
-
Well The way I look at it birth control pills differ from the morning afterpill which is issued to a woman after she has had sex, but then realizes she was unprotected so she goes to the doctor who then issues this pill and in essence aborts any eggs which may have been fertilized as I understand it.. I am no expert but that is how I understand it to work. I think the regular pill works before fertilization to excrete the egg before conception.. Is that correct.. someone correct me please if that is not right!

You have four bras? Well, each to his own, I suppose [:)] (although I am not surprised they are little, I would be more worried if the were 46D).

This question is not particular to just humans..

Most other species generally have far less difficulty getting pregnant (although I have no doubt some other species have their problems too).
One possibility is that it is to do with human coupling. Humans are unusual in that the female tries to hide when she is most fertile, and human tend to copulate even at times when the female is not ovulating. This is assumed to be so that the male cannot know when he has successfully impregnated the female, so he stays around longer just to make sure that he is around at the time when the female does ovulate, and does not let another male get lucky at that time.
It would also make sense, if this explanation is correct, that the female should make it as difficult for the male to succeed as possible, as that means the male has to keep trying for longer (and once he has made all of this investment in trying to get the female impreganted, when he has succeeded, it makes sense to stay around to help the offspring - whereas if the male could just fertilise the female on his first attempt, then he could minimise his investment at that time, and then can quickly just go off and impregnate another female).

That was one theory.
There was also a theory that some plastics containing phthalates might mimic oestrogen and thus have an impact on male fertility.
Personally, I think it more likely that reduced sperm counts are more down to raised stress levels, and possibly social changes that are an accidental by-product of trying to reduce levels of violence in society (i.e. that by making men less violent, they are becoming in some way feminised).
-
I think they work too much and thus as george stated are more stressed etc. etc. Too much work.. all the time work work work work!!!
-
Karen, my b/c (its a ring, not a shot or pill) tricks my body into thinking I'm preggers so that any fertilized egg cannot implant its self and will just slide on out, and it changes internal mucous so that spermies cant get through.
-
Yes. So this contraceptive pills or whatever. Aren't we sidetracking from the question? Why 100 million sperms...
Might be because.. We can't produce 10 amazing swimmers? Like neil said.. So we might as well make 100 million than 10, if the efficiency is the same. [:D]
