I never took antidepressants, but Anafranil, a tricyclic, was the first choice of my MD in my case. Also I read that this drug is used to treat premature ejaculation (10mg/day). But there are a lot of side effects, and a lot of natural treatments for premature ejaculation to try before.
GIRLWIND AND IODINEI read so many pages the other day, I'm not positive it was you who commented on Iodine. If it was, could you please elaborate a bit on how it fits into your thinking and, if you add idodine to your diet, how do you do it? Food, Supplements? Do you know of any correlation between idodine and dopamine? Thanks Underwater
DOPAMINE---My mother died of Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinsons---I recall in those old days, there was a discussion of Dopamine--I always assumed that she could not produce enough of it---I have read somewhere about iodine being related to Dopamineproduction--I just started thinking of this today--Is that crazy?I've had POIS for over 20 years and I'm 60 years old!!! I'm going to aska doctor about that today. This is my first time to see her. She has doctorate in Biochemistry, researched Parkinsons, but she is a Chiropractor. I'm going for accupuncture and Trigger Point, but I selected her because she was on my insurance list AND she is a Biochemist. Only chiropractic is covered, but I will ask herother questions relating to Dopamine---My case may be genetic, but the Dopamine correlation may be very interesting----UNDERWATER
POIS is NOT a destruction of neurons. But the level of dopamine might drop after ejaculation.
My mother died of Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinsons--
My Father, Uncle and cousin all died from MS.
When we hit PAGE 100, to celebrate.................I propose that we get Counterpoints to fly us all to this fine POIS Retreat!!!
In the past i had one orgasm a day, i had this specific tremors (especialy head tremors).
I'm also interested to know what body types do fellow sufferers of POIS have? Ectomorph, Mesomorph, Endomorph?Personally, I'm on the ectomorph side.
Check out this article on dopamine depletion and what the sypmtoms were... it's eerie.http://www.reuniting.info/science/articles/acute_dopamine_depletion_causes_psychological_distressThere could be something here that points to dopamine depletion as the primary cause of the symptoms... now what is causing the dopamine depletion to such low levels for so long in some people? Has anyone tried any of the dopamine agonist drugs for treatment?Examples of dopamine agonists include:Parlodel (bromocriptine) Dostinex (cabergoline) Permax (pergolide) - Removed from market March 29,2007.[2] Mirapex (pramipexole) Requip (ropinirole) Apokyn (apomorphine) Neupro (rotigotine)
POIS strikes me too. My symptoms have been:lethargyderealization (can't describe this accurately... it's like the outside world is at the end of a tunnel or seen through a piece of plexiglass. light sensitivityreduced memoryreduced concentrationreduced speaking ability (difficulty putting thoughts into spoken sentences) social inhibitionSymptoms are strongest at 1-3 days, tailing off over the course of a week or so. Of course, after two weeks of not having orgasm I have other symptoms to deal with... In addition, I have acne that's directly related to my orgasm timing and frequency. Another weird thing is that a few orgasms results in the skin on a portion of the inside of my earlobes sloughing off and a clear, slightly sticky fluid being secreted where the skin came off. I have no clue what that's about, and I've found no one else with this problem.I think I'm just going to go celibate again for a while. :undecided:
