Does Anyone know the procedure for purifying 6 N HCl
or even a link to show me how to distill it.
I'm a graduate student and my prof was telling me that you're supposed to look for the constant boiling point??
I've distilled many things in my day, but not acid.
6 N HCl is going to be a solution of Cl-, H+, and H2O obviously [:D]
but, what is the boiling point??
does it depend on concentration??
and if so why??
I would figure if you distill 6 N HCl you would get pure H2O
or pure HCl not a mixture. [^]
Any help or links would be greatly appreciated [:)]

I am familiar wit the term azeotroph (sp??)
as with alcohol and water
Is this why??
and how do I know what concentration will result??

What exactly do you mean with the term purifying? Increasing its concentration? Making HCl gas? Then, mix it with concentrated H2SO4 or P4O10, for example, and then distill; or you can mix concentrated H2SO4 with NaCl.
