Title: Why is root beer fizzier than other drinks?
Post by: Rambach, Steven on 15/07/2008 10:01:38
Rambach, Steven  asked the Naked Scientists:

Hey. Upon serving various carbonated drinks recently, I was reminded that root beer tends to produce foam much faster and more than many other carbonated drinks when poured into a glass. Why is that?

I've never had root beer but there may be something about its make-up that gives it a surface tension value that favours the formation of foam - the other variables could be the amount of carbon dioxide they dissolve in it as well as the temperature it's served at.
