What an interesting article. I never have seen anything written about this market. It sounds as if the meteorite market will encounter some of the same challenges that confront the antiquities market. And, the article is so clear and well written too! Do write more.

I disagree.  This article was obviously written by someone who knows little or nothing about how the meteorite market actually works.  This article is full of misconceptions.  Comparing meteorite collectors to drug dealers is not only wrong, it's slanderous.  The rest of this article is not worth commenting on.  I really wish writers would stick to subjects they have first-hand experience with.

I have recently become a meteorite-dealer after several years of being a meteorite hobbyist/hunter.  I have always been very public about my activities and have shared all of my finds (meteorites) with local researchers.  I give talks to local youth groups and science clubs.  
But now, because of this article, my reputation is tarnished.  My neighbors who have read this article now think I'm a law-breaking, black marketeer who might be involved with international drug-smugglers!  
I've been wronged!

The article is not suggesting that all meteorite dealers behave illicitly, merely that the high price of meteorites incentivises some to do so. It's no different from the fine art market; the high value of some works means that fraud and theft happen; we know that, but no one would suggest for one minute that, just because it does, Christies is staffed by black market racketeers...

well I have a few meteorites in my house and I found them meet all meteor characteristics...
