Title: Are my ears deformed?
Post by: Geezer on 01/12/2009 20:19:27
Well, they don't look all that unusual, but none of those stupid cheap earphones (like the ones they charge $5 for on aeroplanes) will stay in my ears. Is this a common problem? Should I get plastic surgery, or just buy better earphones?

Pic of handsome Geezer ear (looks like he needs a trim too)

Well! Duh - the noisy end silly. So how do other people get them to stay put? Do they stick them on with chewing gum or crazy glue or something?

Looks more like a hefelump to me. See, it's got its trunk wrapped around that metal thingy. Is the metal thingy a grounding terminal that you can put a croc clip on?

Looks like an embryonic sheepie.

Yikes! You don't suppose it's actually his undeveloped identical twin? It does happen you know.

Heaven forbid!!!

You're not alone Geezer, I gave up with those damn fool things long ago. The best one I had came with a Nokia phone, but it still fell out whenever I pressed the answer button on the cable. Lot of damn good that was!

I found myself always keeping my head tilted to one side to keep it in place, looked like I had been the escaped victim of a lynch mob!

But wait.....(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fbestsmileys.com%2Fthinking%2F8.gif&hash=afcb574fd399ac64cd621844a25938df) I've had a thought.... Put the earphone in your ear and then put sellotape (scotchtape/durex) around your head to hold it in.

No..... not that Durex.......(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fbestsmileys.com%2Fthinking%2F5.gif&hash=006fb41e945c7d7d662f7b7cd06255f7) Oh! I don't know though, that might work too.

The over the ear ones are good, but they make my ears too hot!

Possible solution: earphones incorporated into a headband  [:)] ...

If you listen to music when you run, RunPhones are for you!
Unlike earbuds, they don’t hurt your ears, don’t fall out,
and don’t block traffic noise. They can even be washed.

Don't let the manufacturer's logo put you off ...

The button ones are fine if you buy a pair rather than use the crap things given out on aeroplanes. Usually they come with a few different sized rubber ring thingies so you can select one that make a reasonable seal when you put them in your ears. They cut out background noise pretty well and usually have connectors to suit various kit (Ipods etc) as well as the aeroplane outlets. If you want to pay more you can get sound cancelling ones that "subtract" any external noise present (like the plane engines) but I find the ordinary ones OK.

Everyone is deformed to some degree. It's been happening since the first single-celled life form that could procreate, and you are worried about an ear... which seems visually fine?

Is this a joke?

Blimey Mr S!

It's intended to be a humorous comment about the crappy earphones.

May be a problem if you are wearing spectacles.

Actually, RD, glasses could be the best answer to the problem.

Quote from: BBC
Eric Sykes

Trademark glasses

His big-screen work included Heavens Above!, Monte Carlo Or Bust, Absolute Beginners, The Spy With A Cold Nose and Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines.

In more recent years he appeared in Hollywood film The Others with Nicole Kidman.

Despite developing hearing problems in his early 30s, Sykes' on-and-off screen career has not suffered as a result.

He said his trademark horn-rimmed spectacles were, in fact, a sophisticated hearing-aid, enabling him to sense vibrations.

Doctors were surprised he could hear anything at all, but Sykes always attributed this medical mystery to the protective spirit of his dead mother.

Despite his deafness and later blindness, Sykes continued to perform on both stage and screen well into his 70s, and is now in his 80s.

Sykes has called comedy "a calling", saying: "You don't decide to be a comedian. I don't ever stop. Even when I'm in the bath or shaving, my brain is going like an express train, thinking up funny things."
