Title: How do I succeed in mechatronics?
Post by: FramedLink on 25/09/2015 19:44:54
Hey guys and gals Im a 25 year old guy who just started on my journey to get a Mechatronics degree. And was wondering if anybody can give any tips\help\advice to not fail. Recommend some books.
I'm also wondering are there any interesting experiments you can suggest that I can perform at home, something  cool to make, light right now I'm thinking about building a Tesla Coil but maybe there are more cool stuff.

Before you spend the big bucks on the pitch from some recruiter[1.] I should tell you about Tomsk Polytechnical University. Tomsk is sort of the Ann Arbor of Siberia. I taught English there for three years. A pound of smoked salmon costs six bucks and the women are highly babelicious especially the redheads.

Back to the point, Russia is crawling with very competent engineers, popped out every year by places like TPU. When you consider how cheaper it is for British employers  to job out work to them over the internet, how nice a car and house do you think you will be able to afford?

if you dream nightly of doing Mechatronix, then I say go for it. ( BTW could you learn Russian and save oodles on your tuition? Remember them Redheads! )

But if you are in it mostly for the money, Remember what  Chris Rock tells us...."No matter what that woman tells you, there is no sex in the champagne room! [2.]

I actually know russian. I live in Latvia where the population is like 50% of russians. And the reason I went with Mechatronics is because where I live, that's the pretty much only hope I currently have on getting some life skills to get a real decent paying job. And now I'm a month in and I never had more interesting subjects then I do now, I'm actually thinking about this stuff outside of class. I also had a discussion with one of the teachers there that told me, that after this(1.5 years) I should enroll in a university that to get a higher education and continue in my field, and that he could help me. In the end tho I think I want to be an engineer but they are both pretty similar as I understand.

While teaching in Russia I saw English learners victimized by unscrupulous English language diploma mills claiming to be affiliated with the Oxbridge universities. That affiliation might have been a cousin living in Jericho. I am very leary of these sorts of places especially after the notorious and despicable "University of Phoenix" has had it's depredations exposed here in America..

You might consider asking for the names of several persons who have graduated from this program to see what the actual product is.

You might also consider asking at the university faculty for their opinion of this school.

I liked Riga quite a bit. The Latvians were very pleasant people, but since my face looks sort of Russian, it was best to ask (in Russian) if they spoke English at the outset. i got a lot more smiles that way.

Finally, you might want to look at the free university courses offered to everyone in the world via online MOOC's. I know there are several classes in Robotics on offer. [1.]

PS: Times may be tough in Latvia but whatever you do -don't get a tourist visa to Saskatchewan come Spring and then vanish into the short grass prairie where they might be looking hard (too hard to ask questions) for an English speaking white man who isn't afraid of hard work....or a Saskatchewan winter,eh?.

If you kept your nose clean you could probably live there until forever  -- but that would be illegal.
