Maybe the answer is in our evolutionary history...... one of our ancient ancestors may have evolved a reason for having a longer nail on that finger, for grip? Bats fingers grew pretty long....... maybe ewe have a bat finger!

I have been known to hang 'Bat Style' from a tree branch !...but your suggestion is equally valid !...Thank ewe very much Airthumbs. It would be interesting to know if it is related to the length of the finger and whether the same applies to the middle toe.
