Title: where do you put garden thermometers in the garden?

If you pet them in direct sunlight you get one temperature, in a shaded area another. So is there some sort of compromise to get a "proper" temperature reading in your garden?

Weather data is collected (or at least was) from instruments kept in a "Stevensons Screen". These are white boxes with slats to allow air through and provide an accurate temperature/humidity reading. They are white to reflect solar energy so as not to distort readings. So, in the absence of your own Stevensons Screen, put the thermometer in the shade where air can flow over it and where solar energy can't bias your readings.

It could also be rewritten as "Where in the garden do you put a garden thermometer".
Anyway, the answer is in the shade away from the house or any other heat sources.

THE ANSWER - After 4 "answers' to clarify or obfuscate the original question.

YOU PUT A GARDEN THERMOMETER IN THE GARDEN TO MEASURE THE GARDEN TEMPERATURE - duh! Measure the temp. wherever you want to - the slugs, bugs and mice don't care what the temp is, just as long as they can eat.

Buy the Harlequen Romance when it come out.

You need to get a MAC phone - the new one with the web page instad of the abreviated stuff. Of course, it would be cheaper to buy a used computer and get a dial-up line as the yearly cost for a Iphone is $1800 or more, everything included.
