Can anyone tell me anything about limestone concreations? How are they made and what is interesting about them?
Thanks

From a long past geology course:
Limestone is quite soluble in water, so if water flows through limestone it will dissolve some limestone. If the conditions change slightly - cool down, some water evaporates etc, this limestone can then come out of solution. This will preciptiate on anything handy, in a cave this can cause the creation of cool features like stalagmites and stalagtites, however the same thing is happening in some gravel, some soil or a rock fall, it will precipitate on the lumps, sticking them together, creating a concretion.
I am not sure what you are looking for in the interesting stakes, and there are probably more subtleties than this, I await with interest.
