Title: rare metals

does anyone know of a way to extract sodium metal from salt and magnessium metal from magnessium sulphate.

Sodium from salt? Yeah sure, it's easy....
... if you've got the equipment to electrolyse molten sodium chloride (melting point 804C)!

hmmm... you wouldnt have anything that can heat something that hot around the house would you? then wouldnt the carbon/lead rods actually melt/oxidise?
