Title: Where Does The Air In Popcorn Come From ?
Post by: neilep on 16/08/2007 02:58:43
Dear Popcorn Professors,

I have a dilemma atthis time.... 3am this morning !  I could be thinking about my family, their welfare...global warming, the middle east, terrorism or the future of mankind...but all I can think about is where does the air for this:

come from to make this

We have microwavable popcorn...it's in a very tightly packed bag..there is no air in it !!

so, (and I am sure you agree about my priorities !) where does the air come from that fills the kernel into popcorn ?

Not too sure if this applies to the microwave popcorn, but Inside each kernel, there some moisture, and most kernels are airtight.  , so heating themcauses the water to boil and turn to steam. This steam builds up pressure until it can nolonger be held in, at this point it goes pop and turns into picture number 2.
