Title: Why do blokes have more hair than girlies ?
Post by: neilep on 02/05/2005 18:52:45
Dearest Fonts of Academia,

I was just having a shave, and as much as I hate doing it ,I also had to suffer the eyesore that is my face in the mirror !!...but as I was shaving away I thought to myself, why don't girlies have hairy chests ?  why don't girlies have beards and stuff ?.....is it an ancestoral thing when girlies stayed in the nice warm cave while blokeys went off in the cold to hunt ?...because if there is a distinct advantage to having hair on your chest/face etc then why don't girlies have it ?

After all, do girly apes have less hair ? girly mammals ? girly birds have less feathers......

I realise this may be linked to testosterone but then why is hair a manifestation of increased testosterone ?

Your hirsute coverage of this topic would be most helpful.

I wonder if beards and hairy chests are to make men look bigger and scarier so more potential opponents don't bother... and more women think they look big and strong.

I suppose the other reason why women tend to be less hairy is that young women are often considered more attractive, and not being hairy is a childhood trait, so being less hairy makes you look younger...

Women shave as many hairs on average as men, only not in the same places.
