hello my freind ,let me tell you that i am very happy to find such great site where i can find real scientist ,now my problem is about the respiratory quotient,well as definition it is RQ=Vco2expired/Vo2consumed;oknow the question is :
calculate and compare RQ in theses 3 cases 1-mouse 60g:1300cc O2 absorbed per hour and per kg and 1100cc CO2 expelled per hour per kg.
2-same mouse fasting for 3 days :1320cc o2 absorbed per hour per kg and 920cc co2 rejected per hour per kg.
3-mouse 35kg:1500cc O2 absorbed per hour per kg and 1250 CO2 rejected per hour per kg.INTERPRET the result.

Most stressors....such as fastings cause a homeostatic imbalance. This in turn causes a deficit, a hurdle if you like that creates an increased "potential" demand for energy. This could result in the increased demand for oxygen but a reduction in efficacy of Carbon Dioxide clearence from the circulating blood volume. On examination this mouse (following fasting )would be seen to have relatively high(higher, than normal) peripheral oxygen saturation levels AND high (higher than normal ) saturation carbon dioxide- as due to homeostatic imbalance impeding the delivery of oxygen accross membranes, cells wall and blood brain barrier. Principly i think in this case due to increased "acidity"- though to be honest i aint sure!. Any other med students out there got a better idea?

sorry my frein 35 kg is my dogs weight the third mouse is 35g,and by the way you didnt solve the problem,i want to calculate the ratio and compare after the results,i solved it but i am not sure.

Sorry but you did say "INTERPRET the result" this in medicine means something fairly specific and involves a sort of holistic approach rather than one which can be 'worked out' as an black and white affair...in my humble opinion. Sorry i was not of help!!!!
