Loud music and noises damage hearing by breaking the little hair cells in the cochlea which is sensitive bit of the ear that turns vibrations into nerve impulses.  There is genuine concern that many younger people are damaging their hearing in the long term.  This can happen in very noisy discos and clubs.  There are laws in force to prevent them becoming too loud but they are frequently ignored.  More insidious are over loud earphones playing music directly into the ear.  If at any time you are in a noisy  environment when you would have difficulty in understanding someone talking loudly a meter away you are propbably putting your hearing at risk.

On your cochlea which is part of your inner ear you have lots of tiny hair like cells which bend back and forwards from vibrations when sound waves enter your ear. As they bend they create little electrical signals which gets sent to your brain via your Auditory nerve.
Loud music causes the hairs to bend backwards and forwards to rapidly  which weakens them causing then to bend to often and then break if their not given a chance to recover.its a bit like when you bend a piece of metal backwards and forwards, sooner or latter it will weaken and snap. Your body can repair slight damage but if you don't give them a rest you will suffer permanent hearing loss and the ability to hear certain frequencies.

Wow [:0], that mean that we all are putting our ears into danger cuz its not only the music for discos and cd players that can get loud but also buses and trucks and machines. Those things get pretty loud and you hear them on a daily basis.

Yes indeed....I think it should be made compulsory that we must be forced to wear pink fluffy earmuffs on a daily basis until the age of 65.
