Title: Iraqi priorities
Post by: DoctorBeaver on 17/04/2008 09:05:43
As if inhabitants of Iraq don't have enough to worry about, they are now being compelled to wear seat belts in cars under a new law that has just been passed.

Doesn't the Iraqi government have more important matters to discuss and rectify?

Like the people blowing themselves up? That might be important.

yeah, if you're caught blowing yourself up you should be heavily fined

It may not be such a bad law as there could be a number of other advantages to it besides driving safety.

Suicide car bombers would have to be careful that they didn't get stoped by the police for not wearing a belt.

we should be happy that the government is making any headway at being functional.  just because they aren't passing the more important legislation that they need to pass, doesn't mean this isn't a good law.  Some progress is better than NO progress.

Oh, I agree with that. But this measure reeks of being a bit of make-up where drastic surgery is required.

Jimmy Saville will be very pleased.

Surely you would be safer without the seatbelt on as you could leap out quicker if a roadside bomb goes off.

But if you want to jump out of your car, run toward the ambassador and blow yourself up, you'd have to unclip yourself.

What about the Iraqis have a peaceful life first before they think of  seatbelts.

I've heard it is getting even more exciting out there. The Turks are now sending bombs over into Iraq as the Kurds have been causing a bit of boarder agro. What a great place to live. I sometimes think that only a nasty dictator could keep the lid on a country like this. Democracy just aint gonna cut the mustard.

Seatbelts are restraining devices and as most kidnaps and car hijackings are from people being dragged from vehicles this could help stop that happening.

Its not about speed or crashes as most traffic there is very slow,  its just a simple safety measure that may help.

It isn't going to matter in a few months. Before Dubya leaves office he is going to attack Iran and Syria - the propaganda buildup is getting more intense. he US Defense Department released photographs of the "Korean Built" reactor the Israelis attacked in Syria 9 months ago. And the talk of the poorly kept promise of the Iranians to dismantle their nuclear reactor is causing a LOT of saber rattling and war-mongering by the far right and the Bush Administration is almost cacaphonic on some of the new-channels here (FOX - Rupert Murdock's yellow journalism network)

I truly believe that George Bush is a fundamentalist Christian who believes that an all out war in the Middle East will cause the second coming of Christ. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Then how come if Israel is a nuclear country do they never allow the UN inspectors in. I guess it's because they come from another country eg USA. GW is not the the brightest guy around but to do that and lose all of the US's oil. odd things politics

GB is that dumb and so are his cadre. Dick Chaney can see a profit for Halliburton in doing this so it will more than likely happen. The huge corporations really don't care about us, just themselves.

Why detonate a bomb in Korea or Iran on a nuclear area when all that'll do is to eradicate the world to nowt.

Bush is interested in oil, oil and money not the environment or
the welfare of the Iraqis let alone his own people. (sorry US TNS)

Israel got clever - it never signed the non-proliferation treaty, so it can do what it likes (it always has anyway).  The Arab states all signed up to the non-proliferation treaty, so are bound by its terms.  Iran did threaten to revoke its commitment to the non-proliferation treaty, but so far has not done anything about it.

The nuclear non-proliferation treaty does allow for the peaceful use of nuclear technology, but as we saw with Iraq, you may not even have any nuclear technology at all, but how do you prove a negative, particularly if the USA will adamantly insist you are always hiding something no matter how much searching leads to a negative result.

It is very British humour, we are a little less obvious. I'm not including Benny Hill in this. I thought George Bush was looking for his 'Big Bird sings the alphabet' CDs. His assistant said she had put them in a rack but he misheard her.

When the Beaver (I am lovingly referring to both  of course to the TV classic "Leave It To Beaver and its star as well as Doctor Beaver) stops posting to a subject where he and I have traded insults it means he is sulking. He has no direct retort. He has lost the battle.

Just a bit of info for you who do not know him well.

What it means is that some of us have work to do. Unlike you, I don't have time to spend half my waking hours on TNS and the other half fantasising about having a gneiss time with limestone.

I was questioning the Beaver, not you Ben, but then this mad woman steps in trying to get attention for herself by getting "moonish" on us. It is just one of of being a sane, levelheaded male and suffering each month when the female curse arrives. Every 28 days or so the female of the species want attention, they want to be cuddled then turn on you in "ein Augenblink" (eye blink) they cry, they get angry, you can't do anything right, it is all the male's fault for being in the room - it is a no win situation, Ben. Get used to it, it will be around for the rest of your life unless you enter a Trappist Monastery.
