Title: Accessing the middle of long threads
Post by: dentstudent on 15/06/2007 08:49:10
I guess this is really for Dave:

Some of the threads are many pages long, and when you access them from the web, you get an option of pages 1,2....44,45. This means that you have to access repeatedly to get to p25 for example. Is there another way?

That is a good question.. you are meaning the dots that don't allow for a page to select??? It is odd I bet especially if you are on a mobile!

i think i replied to a similar question, a few months back. basically, each page is 25 posts long so page 1 is from post 0 to 24, page 2 is from 25 to 49 and so on.

so if you wanted to access the diary topic, for instance. the initial page is:
http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=6327.0;topicseen

and page 3 is:
http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=6327.50

so to access page 10 the url would be http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=6327.225

so to get to any given page just change the "topic=6327.225" after the "." part of the url by increments of 25. it is a long way to do it, but the only way i have found that works.

hope that help.

Keeping discussions on-topic and splitting threads, i.e make 'part 2' when they get too long will also help.

actually karen, lol, it's much more difficult on my phone. i only get 5 to 9 posts per page, and sometimes almost an entire page is people quoting back and forth, and i think i'm on the wrong page or that someone said something that someone else actually said. but all in all, i still prefer my phone to anything else. just takes me more time sometimes.

Paul that is an iteresting way to do it! I would never have learned that in a million years as I don't see the url's!
