Rosalind's present Anti-spyware is Enigma Softwware's SpyHunter only since
I forgot to tell the relevant company about the change in my email address
that they are asking me to re register.
I have the Windows Firewall and AV on the PC which is fine but I am interested in looking at other Free Anti-Spyware software programs,
that's if you know of any??
I spent hours of this Sunday trying to sort out the SpyHunter problem to no effect or success.
Thanks

Spybot Search and destroy is good !
It's what I use and works well

..and this website has tons of really good FREE software
http://100-downloads.com/
-
I have been told downloading too many anti virus, anti spyware and such like progs can lead to a conflict between them. Also, these free progs may not be as good as, or as up-to-date as the likes of Norton & MacAfee.
-
Neil, thank you and I'll have a look into these sites also
the Spybot & Search, Destroy one, a friend told me about it yesterda only it's the "BOT" bit that concerns me with Bots
being computer viruses.
Is this an unnecessary concern,
Don, yes that is true about the more Anti-Virus software that you have in your computer conflict against each other,
You only really need the one AV and the Anti-Spyware.
Also Norton AVs take up more of your HardDrives bytes than any other Anti-Virus thing does. I don't use it anymore. That goes for AVG as well but MacAfee is free, I think
-
I also have Soywareblaster too and have never come across a conflicy.
Ys, they do not auto update but it's easily done very quickly yourself....however..you are both right...some do clash
AVG does auto update which is good for an antivirus prog....with those an free zonelaram, as well as the firewall in my router...I feel pretty scure.
-
That is interesting Neil, but just how sure can you be that all
of your AVs and Anti-Spyware programs do not conflict against
each other?

Good question !
I guess it's because they do not bring each other up as malicious software and then try to clean the system of each other !

Neil that was why I got rid of the AVG AV software because it had invited Malware/spyware to attack my computer last year.

For the moment I use Spyware doctor Available from google Pack fro free well slightly crippled but excellent software that is until Norton bugger it up
Spybot search and destroy Excellent software
MalwareBytes Anti Malware Especially for the Vundo Trojan
and well again for free From the Yahoo toolbar is CA anti spyware
I find a combination of these programs to be pretty comprehensive !
-
Why do I know a Google Pack when I have that search engine as my home page also I use it all the time.
-
I recommend Spy Emergency as it has various virus definitions & gives me best protection that i want

Here is a link to another podcast "Skeptoid" - this is run by a guy called Brian Dunning and he uses critical thinking for a suite of topics. This particular one is about the internet and spyware etc. Do listen! It's perhaps 10 minutes, and useful.

Hi, erikejah, I looked at your suggestiong of Spy eraser from uniblue which is actually run by the commercial company behind
Norton/Symantec which I will never use again as it uses up too much of the HardDrive's memory and makes it run slowly.
That is because I did have it once and for me it was useless.
