Title: What is smell and how does it work?
Post by: thedoc on 28/07/2016 09:23:02
Padraig Moloney  asked the Naked Scientists:
   What is smell?

Hi there scientists!

Needless to say at this stage, you guys have a great podcast. (http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/podcasts/)

That's enough compliments lets get down to business!

What is smell and how does it work? Sight and sound are always well discussed but what about smell!
How does it travel?
What actually enters you nose (or mouth)?
Does it work though other media in the same as air (such as water)?

Looking forward to the answer.

Yours sincerely,

An Irish man in Melbourne, Australia,

Pádraig
