Title: Why is a cold called a 'cold' when it makes you feel hot ?

She's feeling a bit sorry for herself !!...she has a right royal whopper of a cold and is shivering like a shivering thing that has been made Executive Officer In Charge of Shivering from the planet Shiver !

Thing is, although she has a 'cold ' she is running a temperature and is really rather hot !..so...why is a cold called a 'cold ' and not a 'hot' ?

Ahhh *penny dropped mode*...I think I might actually have had a revelation and could quite reasonably guess it..but...I'll save my guesstimate in case a definitive, authoritative answer sneezes it's way into this thread !

I bet it did.. that makes sense during the cold season..(winter that is)

OR the cold season as in the time people catch colds?? or are they one and the same was the season named after the cold or the weather happening during that season?
