I could only place a single vote for 2001 because none of the others were in the same league.

Yep, 2001 for me too, but I can also give War of the Worlds a vote, it was good for its time, but the others are too far fetched for me, even if some were good films, they went beyond Sci-Fi and into Sci-Fant!

Ewe're right ??..what happened    ?.I voted for it too..

......perhaps it caught stuck in a Temporal Causality Loop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporal_causality_loop) and keeps returning to the time before it received any votes !...

UH Oh... My Jurassic park vote is still there too.. Thats weird.... I hope that mistake was not my doing.... I did not touch 2001 space Odyssey! I did however remove my 1 vote from the Jurrasic park..but is is still showing! I wanted to vote star trek but it will not allow it.

Afraid it was me..best beat the moderator here as I goofed... so sorry...

Karen - Barbarella was played by Jane Fonda.

Hmm... I saw the original, which I really liked.  Then in 1990 or so, the director stopped any new copies of the original from being produced, in preference for the "director's cut".  The director's cut didn't have Harrison Ford's voice over narration, the ending was cut, and some scenes were cut.

It's hard for me to say which I prefer.  I think the original is the best for someone who hasn't seen it before, or who hasn't read the book "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" (great book!), partly because of the narration.

I also think it's beautiful as an art film... so I don't like that some of the scenes were cut, just because I think they were really stunning.

But cutting the ending from the original was probably a good idea... it keeps things more in sync with the overall atmosphere.

Ideally I would like the original, minus a little bit of the narration, and minus the last few minutes.

Now, I'm not sure if the "final cut" is different from the "director's cut".... but if it's a recent update (last 10 years), then it is (in which case I haven't seen it).

I seem to be the only person who rates 12 Monkeys very highly.  If you've not seen it, I recommend watching 'Brazil', then 'The Fisher King' then 12 Monkeys. A very nice example of Gilliam's core themes, presented in a creative and unique way...

12 monkeys was excellent with Bruce Willis!

The Fisher King had Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams Two of my favorite actors.. It was also an excellent movie! Very much worth watching!

I think I saw Brazil but do not recall.

Brazil is a funny one - it's dystopian and a little disturbing, but visually engaging and raises some interesting points, it's also morbidly funny.  It's a bit like 1984 mixed with Catch-22.
