Here is a well known series. Can you fill in the blank line?
ST
ND
RD
__
-
AA?
(the missing letters from STANDARD)
-
Is it 'TH'?
(1st, 2nd. 3rd, 4TH?)
-
John Chapman and RD both got it right, very quickly! The answer is TH
RD deleted his (correct) post to try to keep the thing going a bit longer. Didn't last long before John got it too.
It's one of those problems that you either solve almost immediately, or you are unlikely to ever solve. The more effort you put into solving it, the worse it gets!
Now you can try it out on unsuspecting friends. But beware, people may become violent when you finally put them out of their misery.
Thanks to all who gave it a shot.

You can even pose the question like this, and it still stumps people.
