just using IE9 & seems seriously faster than Chrome. why?

Coz Chrome performs the additional task of telling Google all the sites you've looked at  [:0] ...

I've turned off the "block attack and website forgeries".

The feature is designed to protect users.  But, it does send a lot of data to Google, and perhaps also gives Google an unfair advantage with the search engines.

Thanks for that link Clifford : I too didn't know "Firefox was so cozy with Google (http://www.elperfecto.com/2010/09/11/stop-firefox-from-sending-data-to-google/)".

I had noticed the data packets going to google when using firefox, (see attached screengrab), but I had mistakenly thought it was only when the Google search engine has been selected in FireFox.

I must admit that I do use some of Google services.
But, this is one of the reasons I've been holding out on purchasing either Android or an I-Phone.

I'd just rather not having "Big Brother" watching over my shoulder all the time.

As far as the original question.
Unfortunately it has been a while since I've used Internet Explorer.  I have had problems with Firefox being a memory HOG, although I suppose I have a bad habit of opening lots of tabs and not closing them.  JAVA applications often are CPU HOGS, and I frequently have troubles with You-Tube being left in a tab, but continuing to suck down excessive resources.

Add ons like McAfee siteadvisor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McAfee_SiteAdvisor) and WOT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WOT:_Web_of_Trust) can also slow down browsing because of the extra internet traffic they require.

But if your browsing is really slow it's probably your internet provider rather than the browser which is to blame.

seems the chrome has sped up & the IE9 seemed slower. Q=should I subscribe to a registry cleaner?  I'm running Vista & have ~20GB of freespace. gotta figure out the perf monitor. Perplexed why online slows though it seems to do so mostly when I first come online.........thanx
