IS there not a way that a portal could be set up that would shield the information from the sniffer on the machine? ie by displaying as a jpg/png with buttons rather than html text with hyperlinks

You could get around the filter with a proxy,
but I doubt the junior Thetans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thetan) know about that sort of stuff as they probably don't have access to wikipedia ...

I think it was the tight trousers that did it.
