Snow and ice all around, Police say don't travel unless you have too and my sons school is going to open at 10.15am tomorrow. It is a car and train journey away and he has to walk at the other end. His only subject of any worth is Physics. The other subjects are PE, Games and Citizenship. Fred's school has not decided yet. snow flurries are on the cards for tomorrow.
So, do I send them to school or not?

I say let them stay home.... That sounds like a trecherous drive and really bad conditions!

The problem for a lot of people is that if their kids are at home then they too have to stay off work to look after them.

Yes that was always a problem when both parents or one parent households were concerned... It was always a very difficult decision because the sacrafice quite often took the food from the mouths of the family or caused friction with employers also.. It was always damned if I do or damned if I don't... I always really felt for the whole unit in those cases and the parents especially who are forced to choose between their children and their employment...so sad! Being in the child care field I am well aware of the pressure on the parents not to mention the stress in making those decisions and living with their consequinces!

Murray went into school but guess what? they let him out early. So he went in for 10.15 and was released at 15.15. Ho hum! Fred is getting a bit stir crazy now and won't go out in the snow because he has fallen and hurt his coxics.
Murray has a Maths exam on Monday (AS level.) If he misses it he has to wait until the summer to resit and I have to pay for the resit. He also gets RESIT on his certificate, like he failed it first time or something! Why can't they postpone all exams for two weeks. It seems mad to me. The forecast is really crap for Monday. I may have to put Murray up in a hotel near his school. BONKERS!

That is ridiculous! They should make good with postponement of exams until the bad weather passes.. I think you should start a petition and petition the school board.. Can you all do that there? Is it allowed?

This is probably a stupid question, but why is his school so far away?

He is very intelligent. Much more than me. He is verging on the edge of aspergers. The school around Andover are very average and he would probably get killed by bullies. In Wiltshire, across the boarder, they still have the grammar system. Murray passed and went to the grammar on the advice of the Head of his primary school. I chose schools to suit my children and have not sent them to private schools as there are plenty of state schools with the ethos to fit all children.
His journey isn't excessive, in fact it is less than the one I used to do and I went to my nearest secondary school (very rural.) The problem comes when we have bizarre weather, which I never banked on. However at least Murray's school opened on Friday. I hear schools aren't opening because the low attendance will reduce their standing in the league tables. Tut,Tut.
