Title: What are electrons?
Post by: ScientificSorcerer on 25/07/2013 07:56:14
What exactly is an electron any way?  protons and neutrons are made of quarks but what is an electron made of? I looked around on the internet and apparently nobody really knows and it is still a mystery. But I did find out a lot about what electrons can do and the only tangible substance that can come out of an electron is light.
I heard that electrons act like waves and particles as suggested in the famous "double slit experiment" and they can some how make electrons and positrons from light as suggested by the "pair production theory".

I mean to suggest that an electron is literally made of light this would explain why light can come out of it and it would explain why they can act like waves and it would explain why you can make electrons with light.

But if that were true then perhaps the electron is a ball of light. To me that doesn't make sense to me because I thought light can only go in straight lines but according to quantum physics light photons can orbit each other! In Quantum entanglement. not only that, Albert Einstein discovered that light can indeed be bent by massive objects. But how can light ball up like that "physically" I really can't say for shore but it makes me think that if an electron has mass like protons and neutrons then maybe protons and neutrons are made in a similar way.

But if the electron is made of light then were dose it get it's mass from if light has no mass? Albert Einstein suggested that light can sort of warp time and space, expressed by the famous E=MC2 equation. If light warps space going in a straight line then what would happen if it were in a ball? the answer is gravity.  It all points back to the idea that everything is made of light.

In this article I stated that an electron is a ball of light and that gravity is the result of lite bending space around in a ball and that perhaps quarks might be made of light in a similar way.  I backed up my statement with real science and I believe that this theory of mine explains (for the most part) what electrons are and maybe what everything is.

Of coarse this is just my personal theory and it is not excepted by science (yet) so if you can point out any flaws or you simply want to discuss this idea then just speak you mind in the reply section below.

An electron is a paticle made of a substance known as floobydust. :)

From reading your post it’s quite clear to me that you already know what an electron is. Any particle is defined by its properties. You seem to think that there’s a mystery here because an electron is not made of other particles. Why don’t quarks bother you? Don’t you wonder what they are? What are they made of?  If you expect every particle to be made of something else then there will be an infinite regression of particles. For example;

Electrons are made of A’s and B‘s. A’s are made of C’s, D’s and E’s. C’s are made of F’s and G’s. G’s are made of H’s, L’s, M’s, N’s, O’s etc. and it would never ever end.

It just so happens that certain particles are fundamental and that’s that. That doesn’t mean that there’s a mystery to it. In fact if every particle was made of other particles then that would be a true mystery.

An electron is said to be a fundamental elementary particle  protons and neutrons are made of quarks but what is an electron made of? I looked around on the internet and apparently nobody really knows and it is still a mystery.
No! The only person I’ve ever seen consider this to be a mystery is you. Nobody else considers it a mystery. And it would take more than you to make the physics community consider it a true mystery and using an argument other than the one you’ve posted in this thread.

See? This is what I meant above. Why aren’t you curious as to what quarks are made of? Why isn’t that a mystery to you? :)

That’s true of every particle in existence, not just electrons.

There’s no way for that to be true. Light is made of photons and photons are particles that always move at the speed of light. If they’re not moving at the speed of light then they don’t exist. There’s nothing to bind photons together like other particles and atoms are.

There is a theoretical object called a geon which is light bound together by gravity. They don’t exist in reality because they’re unstable and fall apart as soon as they’re made.

That’s incorrect, Photons cannot orbit each other. Where on earth did you get that idea from? It’s certainly not part of quantum theory.

In the future it’d be a good idea to search the internet for things like that before you post it. It seems like a million people have come up with every conceivable idea that could exist so when you have an idea like that then there’s a good chance that someone has already done it. In this case it was John A. Wheeler who first came op with the idea of a ball of light called a geon. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geon_(physics)

Please note that a geon is not a quantum mechanical entity.

Pmb

I like how you quoted me on almost every sentence, it's clear to me that you feel strongly about this sort of thing, I personally love to think about how the universe could truthfully work.  To me the universe is a mystery and I love mysteries as much as Scooby doo but this is one big mystery and neither you or me can solve alone in-order to have a chance we should work together on it.

I wonder what your opinion is on the universe?  Iv'e read some of your posts and you clearly  know your way around physics so if you were to sum it all up into a paragraph or two what would your explanation be on the subject of what everything is?
