Title: Would you perform an autopsy on a friend?
Post by: Mr. Scientist on 07/12/2009 05:13:50
Me and my friends got into a pervetedly-sick conversation - yet again - and we asked each other whether we would perform an autopsy on a friend, if it meant that the autopsy itself would extract valuable information into their cause of death.

I answered yes.. For the sake of knowing that my friend was not murdered, other's said no, because the idea of cutting up their deceased friend disturbed them, and quite rightly so.

So... would you?

Certainly not, I'd leave it to a pathologist.

I'm with Don on that one. Either that, or we'd have to deep freeze the body while I studied forensic pathology.

Armin Meiwes would (and dispose of the leftovers) ...

Yeesh!  I can't even remove a hook from a fish.
Then don't put it in.

AHH... That was my main condition also... so we do actually have mutual thoughts :)

I can assure you, that's certainly much deeper than any of my friends and myself considered. :)

I could chop up everything but the eyes. Eyes make me go all funny.
I guess I'd be more respectful of a friends body and a great amount of mind over matter would have to take place.
I would eat their liver with lima beans and a drop of Chianti.

Ooh, there is another person in the world who goes loopy over eyes?!? I have a recurring dream where a dentists tooth scraper thing is used to scrape away the whites of the eyes. Horrible.  [:o]

ooh.. I can watch surgery, but not murder, violence, kind of gore, makes me nauseated, especially when real violence is envolved.
I do however think if it were necessary, that I could examine my friend, given I had the proper knowledge to perform an autopsy.

A friend of mine - who is a histopathologist - told me recently that she did once do a PM on a friend, at the request of the friend's family.

Who me?

The body when dead to me is no more than the kind of lifeless matter of a dead animal unless i had an attactment to it -  in which case, i would have problems. If its on morality, then it is all causal to what that person would have wanted, more than any personal decision i could make on doing an autopsy.
