Title: Could hypnosis help you to remember a long-forgotten second language?
Post by: jim morrison on 12/11/2003 13:18:22
Hi.
I have a friend who was born in france and lived there until he was 5 years old. he could obviously speak fluent french.
He then moved to england and learned english in a few months.
He refused to speak anymore french because other children made fun of him and after 2 years he had completely forgotten his french.
Question: Is it possible through hypnosis for him to remember his french? If it is still somewhere in his head, can it be bought to the fore again so that he will again be able to speak french?

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated,
Jim

If you think about memories of other things that you retain from the age of about 5 you'll agree that they tend to be quite hazy and very subjective. I suspect that there is still some French buried in there somewhere, but hypnosis is not going to make a difference.  Hypnosis merely encourages you to relax very deeply and might clear your attention of some of the clutter created by every day distractions, but it certainly is not a means of reprogramming the brain to revitalise lost memories, despite what some cranks would have you believe.

I, too, want to retrieve my Arabic skill, but I think hypnosis is kind of cheating.
