Title: Taking one paper out of bunch

There is competition in my town to take one paper out of a bunch, does anyone know how to do it?

Mythbusters replicated the "pull" with some interesting results (episode Tablecloth Chaos), but I'm only seeing previews of it on YouTube.

Hmmm, I decided to try pulling a sheet out of the middle of my ream of paper, with a few things piled on top of it.  One quick jerk.  And, I did reasonably well...  Perhaps one needs to have a little extra weight on top of the pile.  Or, maybe it is just the jerk.  It may be easier to grab a piece from the middle of the pile than the top of the stack.
