what is vinegar made from , my wife said it was from the sea like salt, i told her it was different chemicals. who would be correct in this disscusion.

The "acid" in vinegar which gives it the pungent taste is acetic acid, of the chemical formula: CH3COOH. Vinegar is a dilute mixture of the acetic acid and water, along with many other flavors.
Some vinegar is made out of wine, and some people believe it is best to start with a reasonably good wine.

The simple answer is that vinegar is sour wine or beer.
Of course, it's made of chemicals, predominantly H2O
