Title: What is the best home-made limescale remover?
Post by: paul.fr on 31/08/2007 09:44:35
Will vinegar dissolve limescale?

If it will, what could i use to mask the smell, so visitors do not think they have entered a fish and chip shop when visiting the little boys room?

Hi Paul,

I mix a 50/50 solution of purified water and vinegar, then add enough scented essential oil or baking extract (like vanilla) to make it smell good in a spray bottle and spray it onto the scale.  Let sit for a few minutes, then remove with a plastic scrubber.

Otherwise you can put some Coke on it for a few minutes and scrub it off.  Happy cleaning!

Lemmon juice works too and will smell better than vinegar.

Also diluted HCl is very good for it.

Donnah,

The coke will not eat through the coating on bathtubs?

It will if you leave it on too long.  10 minutes should do the trick without doing damage.
