Title: Can electricity be used to shrink tumours?
Post by: NobodySavedMe on 16/06/2008 11:33:22
Electricity Shrinks Tumors. In Vivo and In Vitro !!!

Alternating electric fields arrest cell proliferation in animal tumor models and human brain tumors

findings led to the initiation of a pilot clinical trial of the effects of TTFields in 10 patients with recurrent glioblastoma (GBM). Median time to disease progression in these patients was 26.1 weeks and median overall survival was 62.2 weeks. These time to disease progression and OS values are more than double the reported medians of historical control patients. No device-related serious adverse events were seen

This is very exciting for cancer victims.

The Establishment foot soldier will waddle along here shortly to promote chemo and to rubbish the above.

GEIPE has also similar success and it is even simpler for tumors. You can google it.

It is impossible to get funding/large scale trials/implementation as all the all the funding panels have big pharma stooges on huge cash incentives to promote chemotherapy and stop/kill all alternatives cancer treatments.

This explains why for the last 50 years no advances have occured from the cut, burn, poison methodology of chemotherapy.

Think about it.Every other field reports huge advances weekly, monthly, yearly.

Except cancer treatment.

Every new drug is just another random concoction of toxic chemicals at hugely inflated prices to make vast profits.

X-rays are created using electricity, X-rays are used to treat cancer ...

Quote
Radiation therapy has been in use as a cancer treatment for more than 100 years, with its earliest roots traced from the discovery of x-rays in 1895.[2] The concept of therapeutic radiation was invented by German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen when he discovered that the x-ray was a powerful and effective tool with which to treat cancer.

NobodySavedMe, are you paying attention to your own posts?

And then you say that funding isn't available for clinical trials of non-pharma cancer treatments. Sure this is a small trial but they didn't do it for free.

I also think it's worth pointing out that the lead author (amongst others) works for the company that sells the device, and that at least one of the authors is a shareholder in the company.  If this was the case with a paper detailing sucess of a new pharmaceutical treatment you would shout bias.

As it is, this is an interesting paper that certainly suggests that they could slow (but by no means halt) cancer growth.

No, the foot soldier will simply point out that yesterday NSM was saying that electromagnetic fields caused cancer.

Actually it's quite an interesting idea but I do wonder if it's a statistical fluke; 10 people isn't a lot.

Some people may be interested to know that he platinum based anti cancer drugs like cisplatin were discovered because someone was doing some similar work looking at the effect of electric fields on bacteria back in the 60s. They used platinum electrodes and found that it inhibited the bacterial cell division. Later groups (presumably less well funded) repeated the work but didn't get the same results because they used other electrode materials.
An investigation showed that it was platinum compounds generated by electrolysis which caused the effect.

Oh, BTW, I'd sooner be an establishment footsoldier than be seen trying to support some of the stuff NSM does like this.
