Title: NEO's
Post by: SPDSupport on 16/01/2006 14:45:54
Amazing to think we only know about and track something like 4% of NEO's, take a look at how many come close every day...

Do you think Apophis..http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/risk/a99942.htmlaptly named by someone with a dark sense of humour

(Apophis, the Destroyer.
Patron of: evil and darkness.
Appearance: a great serpent or crocodile
Description: Apophis was the ancient spirit of evil and destruction who dwelled in eternal darkness.) [8D].........

with a torrino scale of one will provide us with a great few nights of stargazing..or a good few years worth of fallout from impact?

I'm sure I remember hearing of 1 a while back that passed between Earth & the moon. That's scary.

Theres another two coming too between 2101 and 2104 but I think the only one of us around then will be Jimmy Saville and i suppose it all depends on whats left if Apophis hits us..

Personally I expect it will miss and provide a great show for us..apophis has a 1 in 6,250 chance of hitting us in 2036... the second lot will finish the job though I reckon with a 1 in 3,230 chance and arriving within the once every 60 odd million years mass extinction bracket.. I reckon  I have got a good chance of going out with a bang on my 70th! lol[:D][:o)][8D]

The asteroid seen hitting the moon was only the size of a baseball,
however, as it was travelling at 16 miles per second, a catchers mitt would have been of little use.[:)]
