Title: Is cotton dangerous?
Post by: shikijiyu on 15/10/2009 19:06:22
RECENT FINDINGS SUGGEST THAT COTTON MAY POSE A SERIOUS HEALTH RISK!

Did you know that your loved ones might be in serious danger?  New research suggests that cotton may pose a serious, even fatal, health risk for those who wear and use it on a regular basis.

An analysis of CDC data suggests that cotton is the primary material involved in over 20,000 infant suffocation cases every year.  On average, 9 people suffocate EVERY SINGLE HOUR.

But suffocation is hardly the only danger related to cotton use.  It is a mostly unknown fact that cotton contains the toxic chemical Gossypol, which can harm the brain and nervous system, the hormone system, can cause organ damage, sterility, and may also be a cancer-causing agent.  Prolonged exposure can cause acute heart failure resulting from cardiac necrosis.

Signs of prolonged excess gossypol exposure are weight loss, weakness, anorexia, and increased susceptibility to stress.  Children may suffer cardiomyopathy and sudden death; if the course is more chronic, they may be depressed, anorectic, and have pronounced dyspnea.  Adults may show weakness, depression, anorexia, edema, and shortness of breath, and also have gastroenteritis, hemoglobinuria, and reproductive problems. Acute exposure may result in sudden circulatory failure, while subacute exposure may result in pulmonary edema secondary to congestive heart failure; anemia may be another common effect.

Unfortunately, the cotton industry is big business, worth in excess of $12 billion dollars annually, and that does not even begin to include all the products made from this dangerous material.  It is in their interests to suppress the many health hazards related to cotton in order to continue to make a massive profit.  Members of the industry spend enormous amounts of money every year to influence laws and regulations related to its production and use in order to secure their continued profit.  This results in the average citizen going about their lives completely oblivious to this hazardous, even fatal, material that is all around them.

Did you know that between 50% and 95% of all cotton has been genetically modified as well?  It is more than likely that the cotton in your clothing, your infant’s clothing, and even your napkin, is NOT from the real cotton plant that originally grew all over the Americas.  Recently, one of the genetically modified strains of cotton was responsible for a MASSIVE ecological disaster in Australia.  But the cotton industry is able to completely suppress the fact that we are sold Franken-cotton products every single day.

…*sigh*

You’re actually starting to consider some of this garbage, aren’t you?  At least one of these arguments has hit home in some tiny way.  Maybe you wondered about suffocation deaths, maybe you wondered about Gossypol, maybe you wondered about GM cotton products.

Everything I have said so far is true, but has been twisted and skewed until it fit my bogus agenda of vilifying cotton.  There is NOTHING wrong with cotton.  Common sense tells you that everyone you know, everyone for the last several hundred years, has worn cotton their entire life.  But we are willing to let our fear of unknown dangers allow us to be led along like sheeple to the slaughter.

All I needed to finish it off was some stupid product.  Repackaged saran wrap maybe, that you can wrap around yourself to insulate you from the dangers of evil cotton.  Or how about some repackaged lotion, which I claim creates a barrier on your skin to prevent the dangers of cotton exposure…

Don’t let anyone sell you anything because of your fear of the unknown.  It’s the oldest scam in the book.  Don’t buy colon cleansings to remove ‘buildup.’  Don’t buy footbath kits to ‘remove toxins.’  Don’t hate on GM food because you don’t understand what it is.  Don’t let the fear of H1N1 keep you glued to the television.  Don’t let people use the words ‘toxins’ or ‘chemicals’ or ‘outbreak’ or ‘genetics’ or any other goofy crap to instill in you a fear of something that they then use to milk you of your hard earned money.

…please don’t ban me.  I just needed to vent.

This is great. I hope that being the site it is that people have the concentration to read to the end and not give up halfway through believing the rubbish you have relayed. It is so true that people believe half-cocked stories and go on telling the wrong thing to people.
That is why it is important to check facts. If something sounds sus then don't believe it.

You are quite right. Any facts and figures can be used to say anything for and/or against anything. Yes it get's my goat sometimes too! Whoever states anything for or against anything, which will have some effect on how and where you spend your hard earned cash, take a look at their agenda before believing them. Ask yourself 'do they stand to gain from this?' Chances are, they do.

We're already naked scientists, no need to get us to throw away our clothes :p
