Here in the UK...the avaergae number of PAIRS of shoes owned by girlies is 30 !!
30 !!!..I mean..what is that all about ?
I wish we had a Psychological thread because it is the nature of human behaviour that
fascinates me the most.
me needs to know why girlies need so many. Me thinks me can understand it....
...and even guys now have many pairs of trainers !!
Me ?...three pairs of shoes...two pairs of trainers...and that's enuff..
and EWE ?
whajafink ?
-
OOHHHHH, me luvs shoes. I probably have more than 20 pairs. Sandals, flats, pumps, tennis shoes (sneakers). Flip Flops are my favorite. BUT..... when I'm home, my feet are almost always naked. [;D]

THANK EWE CAROLYN for responding to this poll of important note:
Ewe luffs shoes eh ?...no kidding !!..after all..ewe is a girly..and there is profound equation even more noble and more enigmatic that Einsteins E=MC2 and that is : Girlies + Shoes = Abundance in quantity without reason !!...LOL

LOL Unless I dress uplike in picture I don't wear them.. Just tennis shoes and moon boots!LOL
I love being bare footed but hate my feet getting dirty!

Anyone mind if I move this to general chat?

Not Me thread but do as you would like! You sound pretty sensible Dave! So you like to DAnce... DO you and your sweety get much opportunity to go out dancing? I love Dancing!!
-
I do like dancing. At about 7 I decided I didn't like music, which means that I have come at dancing from going to ceilidhs and deciding that dancing was great and expanding from there. I used to do loads of stuff, ceilidh, swing, ceroc, french, molly (http://www.societies.cam.ac.uk), scottish, plus random bouncing around to more modern music - I am not very fussy (although if it is too repetative, and thudthudthudey it gets boring. Although due to doing other things, and Molly dancing wrecking your joints I have been doing a lot less of it recently.
ps Calling her my sweetie will not do al ot for your life expentency ;)

THANK YOU KAREN & THANK YOU DAVE FOR your contributions.
I am particularly interested in the explanation as to why people (who have a large quantity of shoes) own so many !
Is it a case of the pleasure of shopping, trying on then buying and then owning ?
Is it a case that they are to match one outfit only ?..if so ?...how often will they wear that outfit and do they consider it money well spent ?
Is it the enjoyment of accumulation and the shoes are enjoyed be them worn or not ?
Are the shoes regularly handled and cleaned whether they need it or not ?
Does this extend to a fondness for the feet ?..they're own ?..or others ?
Do they sit amongst their shoes in Shoebedoo Heaven ?
Do they give the shoes away and then replace them ?...
When they see all their shoes , do they see a collection ?..or do they just see foot wear ?...etc etc

First and formost, I bought each pair of mine with mind on a certain Dress I owned that the shoes would look marvelous with.. Part of a whole outfit! Thats how I shop! I donow shop with comfort as well as outfit inmind. I do not where High Heels Like you do Sheepy, mostly Flats that are dressy to a casual dress. I can where them with slacks also if I like! So they can be interchangable. I keep them stored in a covered shoe rack.. But rarely wear them unless it is a special occassion.. Christmas Thanksgiving etc. Usually I am a genes and pants girl, Although I love dresses and the more feminine side of things.. Preschool just isn't the place for dress shoes and dresses.. Its difficult when you are being burried to your neck in a sandbox or chasing children up and down climbing structures all day to wear a dress and heels of any sort! LOL
I do not by shoes for the pleasure of it,rather for the comfort of it! I love me feet to be cozy.. Must take good care of your feet!

DAve if she be not your sweety, what shall I refer to her as? I should like to live longer , YES!
-
Rosy normally suffices
-
Ahh Lovely name and now that you mention it, I think I remember seeing that somewhere perhaps in the mod forum! Thanks Does Rosey like to Dance?
-
Come on...there's only been 8 voters ?
I suppose i really need a foot apparel forum !!
Dave...please get Rosy to vote !!
-
Neil, Did you include your quadraped friends shoes in your vote count!
-
OK, OK, I've voted... I think I have less than 10 pairs of shoes but I'm not actually sure. I may have more, just because I'm so bad at throwing out the ones I never use any more.
Let me think...
the ones I actually wear
work shoes
wearing-with-a-suit shoes
wearing-with-a-dress shoes (2 pairs, but one doesn't really fit)
CAT boots
walking boots
canvas strap sandals
The ones I haven't thrown out yet:
old CAT boots
old sandals
old, old school shoes
dancing shoes (but they're in too many pieces, and rub too much, to wear)
trainers (had 'em since school but they didn't fit even then, hence not worn out)
So maybe 12 actually in the wardrobe, but some of them will go in the bin next time we move house.
I suspect I'd buy more shoes if I didn't have size 9 1/2 feet.. my work shoes have to come from a shop in London 'cos I can't find anything I like in Cambridge that fits. I can buy men's boots and they're only a bit too wide, but that's what laces are for, right? And I can wear size 8s for sparkly shoes to wear with a dress because there's so little to that kind of shoe I can wear them with my toes and heels sticking over the end... and that kind of shoe is so uncomfortable anyway that all the other girls generally want to take theirs off too before I get blisters (and anyway at 5'9" plus it's not like I want to wear huge heels).
PS I guess people are allowed to refer to Dave's girlfriend as "Dave's sweetie" as long as they don't know it's me. Anyone refering to me personally as "Dave's sweetie" is in serious trouble ;)
-
Rosy, I am Karen and it's a pleasure to meet you! I was the Culprit, and I will keep that in mind! LOL
You bring up a good point with the shoes. I have a few pair that are history, and have just not been tossed. I to have a large foot. (9 and 1/2 to 10) depending on the shoe! Why is it that it is so stinkin hard to find a nice shoe for a big footed women that doesn't look like army boot or some kind of ill fitted contraption with no consideration to design or taste, without like you said having to shop in specialty places?? I know we are not alone in the bigger foot department, I used to have a friend and she was a size 13 which is really big for a women.. She had to have hers made special for many years as the others were so ugly!! WHAts that about? It makes me mad!!

-
LOL I know...
-
Girl you sound like you are the queen of shoes.. Is that why us girls get such a bad wrap from men????LOL!
-
I just came accross the poll - I'm afraid I was one of the higher scorers. oops.
I'd like to put forward an explanation in my defense. I split my time between London and Norfolk, which means that instead of continually carrying my entire wardrobe around with me to be prepared for the weather, I do have items that I leave at one place or the other. also, there are different weathers to contend with - sandals for the summer, waterproof for when it rains, boots for winter when its cold, sturdy soled for the ice and snow ... then there are different occasions, to wear with trousers or skirt, different colours, smart or casual, work shoes etc etc. anyway, the damage is detailed below!
I have 2 pairs of brown long boots, 1 long black boots, 1 short black boots plus 2 pairs of calf length black boots that I don't really wear.
on to shoes - black mary-janes, brown suade mary-janes, black leather pumps, black velcro kickers, black smart shoes.
2 pairs of exercise trainers (adidas for inside, reebok for outside), vans trainers, a lovely pair of white gravis trainers, pale green trainer-like pumps.
now for sandals - can't remember, they're all locked away, but I think: 2 pairs of beach flip flops plus some black leather flip-flops, beige sandals, espadrilles, some red pumps with embroidery on them, shiny bllue sandals, and probably some others too. so thats at least 23.
-
I will give a little insight as to why I own over 50 pairs of shoes. I have a love/hate relationship with shopping. I'm one of those "in the middle" girls, I'm not skinny, and I'm not fat. But no matter what I do when I'm shopping my self esteem goes down the crapper. You can see fat here, theres a new roll there, and so on. And it is the same with bras, having been 'blessed' with a larger set, it is impossible to find a cute bra with small cute little straps so I can wear cute little tank tops. The only thing I am left with are these huge industrial strength numbers. Very Frustrating!!!!!!!
This is why I buy shoes. Shoes are the one thing that never make me look fat, I can always be fashionable with them, shoes are my comfort food after shopping. Nothing makes me feel better than a brand new pair. Speaking of, I'm off to buy a new pair of open toed pumps, black and silver satin leopard print... so excited!!!
-

Karen you can get them at Le Chateau stores across Canada. You would have to go to a bigger city, as smaller towns arent "hip" enough to carry them. I was able, however, to find something like it on zappos.com

-
Money is no object when it comes to shoes, if I want them, and can think of atleast two outfits I can wear them with, I buy them.
-
$20!!!!! thats £10!! i don't know about the US, but if you bought a pair in the UK for that price they'd rapidly fall apart.
having said that, I tend to get a lot of mine in sales, and have bought some nice shoes for not that much more. my most expensive (~£50) were my brown boots that I wear about 5 times a week. I've had them a year so far, and apart from needing a bit of a polish they're still absolutely fantastic!
I think I'm with Meg about the reasons for being a shoe fetishist. its the same with jewellery, you don't need to be a size 8 (US 4) or less to buy them!
the only problem is that my feet are average size, so I'm usually limited for choice!
