I am about 25/30 miles north of Alandriel - and about 2° cooler (13°C = 55°F). No fog, but grey and overcast, and some drizzly rain.
Because of the heavy cloud cover, there is not a great deal of variation between daytime and nighttime temperatures (on some of the clearer days about a week ago, we were having overnight frosts).
-
Oh I see. Right now on Saturday at 5:50 EST in the same spot. Its 54. Well that's wahat it says. I think its about 45 haha
-
Its 5:26 here Saturday and 70 degrees F. (low 20's) clear, cloudless sky - absolutely beautiful!

Yes, the dry air lets radiational cooling get down to the mid to low 30's this close to sea level - 600' above MSL or about 180 meters. (is that the correct estimate? don't have my conversion chart handy.)
Carolyn lives in the swamps.

today was cold. the end.
-
That's was um monday? yeah monday was rather cold here also.
-
and ah thanks for that information there
-
Well Today is very cool and wet. It has been raining most all day. I cannot get warm. It was gray here all day long, which is fine except I with it was warmer . I have the heat set for 74 degrees, but I am in the other room and my feet say its a cool40 degrees in here, I have caught a cold and had hoped it was my imagination! But alas it is not.. sneezing coughing runny nose and sore chest! YUCK!
Maybe it will kick in and come a gully washer and maybe some thunder and lightening too! *smiles* OH OH.....I forgot last week before my surgery
We had a really really nice thunder and lightening storm.. It was great!!!! It was so close it was shaking the walls and the glass in the windows were rattling with each pop! SO COOOOOOOOOOL!

I don't actually live IN the swamps, but pretty close. [:D] We're only a few miles from Tate's Hell State Forest and the Tate's Hell Swamp. I've only been in there two times, when the main highway was destroyed by a hurricane (Hurricane Opal, I think) and we had to go through the swamp to get out of town. It's a scary place to be and I'll NEVER go in there again! We're fortunate enough to live on pretty high ground, but still close enough to the swamp to have plenty of water moccasins and the occasional alligator.
Today was warm. About 85. Now, at 12:07 am it's a very uncomfortable 77.
-
...... and the occasional alligiator
[:o] [:o] [:o]
occasional alligator and you mention that just so en-passant as in....
honeeey, watch out that you don't trip over the gator that's on the front lawn when you take the burgers out to the barbie
I might be used to hammerhead sharks and camel spiders (!! - THE worst) but anyone that lives around gators...... kudos! [;D]
London weather : *****sigh********** the usual......

53. Best temperature ever. Its realy nice outside

LOL....we don't see that many gators. What we do see quite frequently are black bear, water moccasins, coral & rattlesnakes. Fortunately we don't have many shark attacks here. We have mostly bull sharks and I think some tiger sharks.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me you don't have camel spiders in London. That could seriously alter my trip next year.
Todays weather: A high of 85, tonight at 9:00 it's 71.
-
never fear Carolyn dear - no camel spiders in London [;D]
Else I would NOT be here either. Vile things those!!!!!!
When are you planning your trip next year? (do NOT come in February even if you get the best offers ever)
If you need a local guide or some tips just ask - having been a 'tourist' here for the past 5-15 years or so I know the place pretty well
Lovely day here today - no complaints for once, even if a wee chilly
-
Whew! That's a relief. Our trip is tentatively planned for late March/early April. We're just waiting on Loretta's boss to approve the dates for her vacation.
Today it's a gorgeous day. Sunny & breezy and 78.
-
Today was a nice day to work outside. Dad and I went down to the woods, got a truck load, made a new path that we can easily get 3 more loads out of. And yeah it was a productive day. Probably about 60 degrees and a little wind, but rather nice!
-
It was warm today and the sun shown, but it was nice not hot!
-
Same as yesterday. So nice.
-
7:35 the weather is 46 degress (burr) and dark and cloudy
-
only got to forty one here all day. and it's been super windy. and i can't find my scarf. and my coat won't close. fun.
-
we had that on tuesday. haha. it stunk. expecially when we had to go outside and march.
-
Rainy and Ughish. But oh well! NOthing can bring me down!
-
Few spots of rain nothing much, getting much colder recently though no where near as cold as past years. I live in Paignton, Devon, UK. Been observing significant weather changes over last 5 years and can say there is definately something wrong with the seasonal changes. Many trees are diseased and many have died. Sycamore and other boradleafed have black mould spots on the leaves, cant remeber seeing this happen before.
-
So you say Global Warming?
-
Andrew calls it cold ~ 1C this morning at 07.50 when I left the house
I call it ffffffffrrrrrrrrrreeeezing (and I'm Swiss!!)
Somehow the cold here is different - more damp/wet. More moisture. Goes straight into your bones
or maybe I've just been in the desert too long to ever acclimatize again [::)]
-
Rather nice day. Good temp. but its just a little dall? i forgot hwo to spell it :( hah
-
It has been pouring rain all day! Still raining and very windy!
-
Wow there too! Crazy. OVer here over there and over there lol all rain in one day..today is supposed to be better though

A beautiful sunny day. So far the temp is 60.
Ryan & Kadie - How cold is it in Ohio. Will I need winter clothes for my trip next week?
-
Alandriel that don't look so good. Blah.
And it was rahter warm today, but the 10 day forcast does say that its going to be hovering around the 50's all weekend. and thursday rain/show showers!!!
-
It was about 70 for most of the day with the ground still soaked from the rain. I waded through tall grass for pictures today now my shoes are drying in front of the heater!
-
Ah sweet!
-
Near Gatwick Airport, in Surrey, Southeast England: going down to freezing-point tonight. Generally it's been a lot colder the past few days and following a particularly painful cycle home from work on Monday evening I've put away the fingerless cycle-gloves and got out the proper winter ones. Brrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!
Northerly winds, but a fair amount of sunshine, which is much appreciated.
-
it was sixty today and it's supposed to snow tomorrow so... who knows
-
Wow snow! I have not stepped foot out the door today. Seemed overcast all day from in here. cold the heater has been on all day!
-
50 at 8:37 and its rather nice.. really nice

yes, it is sticking. and no, not yay. i don't get snow days and have to drive on the ice. it was raining all day before the snow started. i need to move out of ohio.
-
Thats not good. The ice must be hard to drive in! I forget when you live in it all the time you don't usually like it all that much!
-
Snow?!?!? Already? ------ you guys are lucky!
London UK, super bright sunny but cccccrisp day.
2C this morning when I walked out. Now a much 'warmer' 7C
Veggie soup tonight folks! (https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mygamer.com%2Fcommunity%2Fimages%2Fsmilies%2Fsoup.gif&hash=621d305926ca54ceaaca185a91ea99e9)

It is almost 7:00 am and it is still dark! Cool and the heater feels great! LOL I need something warm to drink.. It has been a long night and I am cold.. keep visiting the heater in the other room! LOL!
-
London is always a few degrees warmer than out here (big cities are always heat islands), and this afternoon it was about 4°C, with frost overnight (love this weather - hope it gets colder yet - long time since we had a really cold winter).
The only problem driving in ice is other drivers. Yes, it takes a lot of concentration to drive in icy conditions (more of a problem in black ice - but snow is easier), but it is enjoyable to pits one's wits against the weather (as I said, the problem is when other drivers get silly - so you have to get up early if the conditions are icy). The last really heavy snow that I had to drive in in this country was in 1982, and aside from the early mornings (which I hate simply because of the having to get up that early to beat the traffic), it was great fun to drive in.
-
It's freezing!!! It's 39 here and it's only going to colder the farther north we go. I'm missing Florida!
-
luckily the ice was only on the back roads
-
Thats good. Sounds like you handled it well!
-
Idk i haven't been home since thursady! but we did get some snow that didn't stick.
-
FREEZING!!! It's 32 here and my teeth are chattering and I can't stop shivering.
Love seeing my familiy, but I miss Florida!
-
thirty two. my brother and sister had on shorts today. they are crazy. i mean it's not negative twenty or anything yet... but still
-
We had the first smattering of light snow this evening, although this does not mean I would predict how things will continue, but it does look promising for a cold new year. It was nonetheless still quite damp throughout the day (it was only during the night that it started to get towards freezing). If we can only get daytime temperatures 4 or 5 degrees colder, then it will be too cold for rain.
-
If we can only get daytime temperatures 4 or 5 degrees colder, then it will be too cold for rain.
The temperature would have to drop much lower than that, to be "too cold for rain". Infact it would have to drop to (possibly) -40c for it to be too cold for rain...this is also the same temperature that it would be "too cold for snow". Anything higher than -40c and it can still rain and snow.
Talking of snow, i hate the stuff and always have. I was that boring kid who stayed indoors when it snowed, whilst all others were doing the snowman and sleding thing.
-
Wow I am freezing my tail off inside the heater says its 73 in here but outside it is 59 degrees and pouring down rain and I am embarrassed that I feel like a popsickle!... I would never make it in ohio or georgia.. Too dang cold. I went out on the porch for just a couple minutes there is a good breeze and pouring down hard bi drops of rain and quite a chill. I am definitely a California girl.. Northern that is.. I would die in Southern California It gets way to hot for me! I like it between 75 and 85 to 90... 90's too hot in the sun 80 is ok but pretty warm and in the sun way warm.. I like about 75 to 80 if in the sun.. Thats not bad.. and with shade it is just perfect!
-
Got more than a smattering here today
[ Invalid Attachment ]
Started snowing last night, woke up to 10 inches this morning (about 25 cm for the decimally inclined)
[ Invalid Attachment ]
Still snowing!
-
That is very beautiful!!! I bet it is really cold!
-
Only about 30 degrees F, so not too bad. Let's see, that would be... (pulls out slide rule, multiply by my sisters age (forever 29), subtract the coefficient of soil fragmentation, add the bitterroot constant, drop slide rule, give up and googles convert F to C).... about -1 degree C
-
I am on the Fahrenheit side of the world.. thanks.. Thats pretty cold.. consider I am freezing at 59 degree Fahrenheit !!LOL
-
FREEZING!!! It's 32 here and my teeth are chattering and I can't stop shivering.
Love seeing my familiy, but I miss Florida!
Wahh! Haha
Anyways George (I beileve that's you another someone)
Hum its 50 and I really don't like it cuz i've got a headache and i have to do all this homework and its all so ugh. but yeah its good outside
-
ok the latest report says warm tomorrow rain wednesday, snow thursday
-
It was 50 here today in Michigan. It's supposed to snow tomorrow evening. Although I am NOT liking the cold weather I am hoping to finally see snow. We've gotten snow a few times in Florida but it was only slush. I would really like to see the real thing at least once.
-
I am on the Fahrenheit side of the world.. thanks.. Thats pretty cold.. consider I am freezing at 59 degree Fahrenheit !!LOL
59 to me is colder than sub-freezing, because it is damp. It feels much warmer at a dry -2°C than a damp 15°C (59°F). We've been around 8°C today - far too damp at that temperature. Still in hope we may have a white winter this year.
-
It's raining here. Weather report says we're supposed to get several inches of snow this afternoon.
-
sleet today. welcome to winter!
-
Snow at 4am this morning - i hate snow [:(]
-
I love snow! West of South Bend, IN was getting hammered. I just love that snow, but its 30 here with a dusting of snow on the ground.
-
OHHHHHH Sounds beautiful!
-
Clear skies with a temp of 22.

You are still up there?
-

Ah, well have a nice trip home.
And Kadie I know what you mean. Its 25 here right now. And it was cold with a shirt, and a coat, gloves, hat, and jeans. I was out there for 30 minutes trying to get the rabbits done and lawnmower and wagon ready to put wood in the basement so it ain't cold in here.
-
i'm waiting for hormone overload to kick in. my mom promised i'd be hot all winter. so far it's not working
-
its 40 with ?light rain? thats what it says, but it ain't raning. turned out to be a good day

-
Its still dark here and cold. 5:58AM.
welcome home Carolyn.. Glad you made it safely!
-
Lucky Carolyn
Central London, currently 2C but feels more like -25 (if you asked my skewed internal sensors). It's actually warmer than yesterday and the day before. I'm still turning marmott though. I'm not going out tomorrow - nope. I'm on strike from the cold!
-
pouring down rain
-
Was cold and raining an hour ago.. supposed to rain some more today!
-
today... very cold
-
I did not go out. I opened the door and it was cold. I closed the bathroom window because it was cold. Thats about all I know.. Bob said it rained a little earlier.
-
Here in Hawaii today (on the Big Island), it was around 80. Partly cloudy. Pretty much every day it's around 80 to 85 F. Evenings are cool, at around 60 F Most evenings it rains....nice sleeping to the sound of rain on the metal roof.
-
Yes it is nice.. I used to live in an older trailer and its metal roof was really wonderful for that.. especially when it really pelted down! That it about my perfect weather 75 to 85 cooler evenings so you can sleep! Very nice!
-
According to my weather thing on my computer it is 11 centigrade (51.8 Far) http://www.onlineconversion.com/temperature.htm sheesh !!!
Also, even though at 5pm it's now night the piccy is showing the sun covered by a cloud so that must be true too !!
-
According to my weather thingy on my porch it's 62 F (16.6 C).
Feels much cooler to me, wonder if the 1/2 dozen bottles of ice water I drank has anything to do with that.
-

-
Cold.... Brrrrrr (London, 21.00)
-
27 its been really cold in the mornings. Burr. Supposed to get snow this weekend!
-
It was a lovely sunny and even warm day. Neil's 11C is definitely an in-the-shade measurement. The sun was much warmer on my face walking through the park.
*sighhhhhhhhhhhhh and today was a grisly, misty, horrible day again. The only bright thing were some very yellow autumn leaves on the grey pavement.
Going ice-skatin later tonight. I hope it's not getting any wetter than it already is.
-
Ice Skating! yay sounds like fun. may i come along? hah
-
We have never had a place to ice skate here, I would probably kill m yself falling down, I do not roller skate very good, I could not imagine Ice skating!
It always looks so fun though!
Well it poured down rain right before I layed down tonight and rained til 10:00 pm. Then it just got cold. I was just on the porch it is 3:00am and it is 29 degree Fahrenheit = -1.6666667 degree Celsius. Wowsa cold!
-
Yesterday morning at 8 it was 16 degrees with a 9 degree windchill. and it got up to 30. we also got some accoumation of snow and sleet
Today it was already like 40 at 8 in the monring. i was like what the heck? haha. and it got up to 54. And it was really windy
That's a bit odd ain't it?
-
We are having a huge storm..wind blowing at 40 miles an hour in town and upwards to 70 miles per hour here at the house!
Here are some pictures I just stepped out of my door to take.. My brother in law is on his roof trying to put it back on.. a good portion blew away last night. He has been hammering and replacing roof for several hours now!

My sunny Florida has gotten cold! It's 2:12 pm and 48 f. [:-'(]

WOOOO Yes it is cold indeed!
It is a warm 68 degrees F. here at 12:27 PM In Northern California!

Karen, could you close the gate next time. Your "storm" that you let out is now battering Montana with high winds and torrential rains.
-
OOOOOOH thats not good.. It has been a doozie..very calm and warmer today.. barely any wind at all..
Wow its getting you all eh? thats not good. It made quite a mess here and I have lots to clean up.. a lot of broken tree limbs a few shingles had to be fixed... Like I said my brother in law had to replace a lot of his roof. It seemed to have hit at an angle that just ripped at his roofing.. Ours had minimal damage... Thats from me standing out there and looking.. I could only see a couple loose shingles... Bob went up yesterday and fixed them.

What does the face on the torch represent?
-
We only got a 2 hour delay today, but the roads were still icy until they got melted today. And guess what that means. More ice tonight. Haha. We are also supposed to get another 2-4 on top of that and wind. So probably another 2 hour or a cancellation. Heck did I tell you what the temp was this morning? It was 3 degrees at 7 o clock with a -6 windchill. Talk about burr.
-
i don't know the temp this morning... but i do know i saw my neighbor slip and fall on his face. i asked if he was ok before i laughed. he was laughing too, so it's ok
-
Ah that was so nice of you Kadie. LoL.
And well its 32 right now. And we didn't have a 2 hour delay or nothing even though we did get a little more snow. And we are supposed to get a lot of frezzing drizzle over the weekend..

-
Omg. Ok It was supposed to get her last night. Um No it didn't. And now after everything and everyone said we ain't gonna have school I ain't that happy. No delay or nothing. If we weren't cancelled yesterday for no reason at all I don't think I'd care. This ain't making sence.
-
It's 63 here and horribly foggy....that creepy, horror film kind of foggy.
-
We have had between -2 nights, to +3 days (Celsius) - just a thin layer of frost of the morning (still some areas in the shade had frost even in mid afternoon) - very pleasant.

Well even 1 inch will make a snowman right! even a table top snowman!
-
We got between a dusting and an inch over night. Idk why but the snow plows we out plowing lol. We are supposed to get a 5-9 inches, but where the snow is coming from I have no clue..
-

-
We made a snowman with less then 1 inch, But by the time we got him rolled the yard was no longer covered in snow!:(
-
It is freezing cold and although it's not snowed here yet. But from past
years and experience, I think that tomorrow morning it'll have snowed
covering the whole area.
-
It is very stormy and rainy here today .. We are expecting a power outage. The wind is whipping and whistling and rain and hail slapping against the windows.. very dark out all day!
-
Burr its not gotten above 20 degrees the last 3 days.
But its supposed to be by Monday. CRAZY!

Is it going to be clearing up anytime soon?
-
It is supposed to stay like this through Monday except they say snow at 10 feet by Sunday.. We live a bit over 300ft! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY! I hope I get to see it!
-
correction.. snow levels at 1500 feet by Sunday and dropping down real low Monday through the following Sunday!....We will see.. Every one of the weather channels are different so I tend to wait for the Local guy he is usually pretty accurate! LOL!

Haha hope you get some Karen. I wish we'd get more instead of a warm up, but oh well. Wow its 37 at 10:50 in the morning.
-
me too It is crazy out there .. my power keeps flashing.
-
Oh that can't be good Karen.
-
Sounds like someones trying to blow my house down.. I lost my fence in the front yard patio yesterday, well during the night.. we will see what happens the winds were around 65 to 70 miles an hour.. it has slowed down some so I am hoping the roof stays on the house..LOL
-
I see. That's not good. Sometimes its like that here too cuz we are like out in the middle of no where and no trees.
-
We have lots of trees, mind you less around the house these days but trees none the less.
-
Oh. There goes the snow..It changes like every hour
-
The weather is like that!
-
The weather is like that!
Yeah, but when it leaves there is mud and puddles your feet sink in :( lol
-
I like the puddles!
-
Not when you sink in them and your foot gets all muddy..
-
Who cares feet wash!
-
Who cares feet wash!
But shoes ain't fun to wash when their ain't no running water outside yet.
-
You canr bring water to them then wash them in the washer.
-
But dad don't like washing shoes all the time.
-
Wash them yourself! Hows the weather?
-
Starting to get Dark and Blah outside. Its 39 degrees and not much snow, just ugly yard.
-
Its 51 degrees, and windy.. stopped raining for the time being!
-
yay! gonna go now see ya!
-
bye
-
Rough go of it Karen- California is getting lashed. Hope you weather the storm alright.
-
Thanks for the concern Bass!
Well I went to check the thermometer and to my dismay the wind has blown it down and busted it up.. It is gray icy feeling very cold and the wind has picked up again... on the ground.. Food warning at the foot of the hill behind me as I live along the river. Also flood warnings at the fern bridge last night.. I haven't checked today.. I lost my front fence ripped the crude out of it!There are things everywhere from the wind blowing!!
Robert has been gone again and there for awhile I thought it was going to blow the big picture glass window out! If it gets bad again I am going to put plywood over the picture glass window. They are bowing in under the force of the wind.. They have been in the house since early 60's! They are thin and a bit scary in the wind.. its hitting hard kinda from the west!
-
Weather is still the same..Dark and ughish
-
Here too.
-
But do you have winnd? we ain't got no wind
-
Yep lots a wind! Not as bad as last night yet but lots of wind , thunder lightening the whole works!
-
Lets hope it settles down soon and starts heading my way!
-
You want it?
LOL I like the wind as long as it leaves my house sitting here where it belongs!
-
Yeah i'll welcome any weather system
-
LOL..Watch what you ask for!
-
Oh well I don't really care. I'm tired of this eventful weather. All the snow it now gone and at a little past 12 its 53 degrees.
-
Still stormy here. hail storms and win and rain, most of the night last night!
-
Oh darn! 100th post in this section! Yay!

Congratulations again...LOL!
-
Its 45 degrees outside and nippy at 5:40PM.
-
Well I don't know how fast that wind is blowing, but it is whipping out there and I mean really blowing again!
-
Just to let everyone know it is a balmy 14 degrees C in London, Ontario. And last time I checked that is 5 degrees higher than the temperature in Los Angeles!
-
Yes I see. Wow today got way up there. Maybe a new record, but tomorrow its supposed to be snow. I'm tired of this
Super cold for 2 days. Super hot the next 2 day. Between the two the next 2. And then probably Super Cold again. Ugh I can't stand it. haha.
Plus this rain that we are getting right now is like very very cold rain and the ground was already wet. Ugh
-
Cold, but no snow.
-
its supposed to get down to 30 during the night for the next few days then up to like 70 during the day
-
Overcast but no rain snow or wind.. It just stopped all of a sudden!
-
Blizzard conditions here now- but then again, I spent the day in 16" of fresh powder on the local ski hill.
-
Wow 16 inches.. Thats a lot of snow! Are you all settled in and safely tucked warm inside now?
-
Keeping warm by the glow of my computer monitor. Nice and cozy here inside the house. My yellow lab (I call her my big blonde girlfriend) is keeping my feet warm.
-
LOL..I bet she is a sweetie. We like labs here to. I had a golden retriever that was wonderfully loyal and always laid on my feet like that when it was so cold.
I am glad your warm and cozy! LOL.. Still storming??? I bet it is beautiful!
-
If you live in Montana, you have to love the snow! So quiet and peaceful now, wind has died down, but still snowing.
-
I'd kill for 16 inches of snow.
The park is flooded because we got lots of rain over the week. Its also been really windy. Andd I thikn the temperature has been hovering around a high of 40 and a low of 20 the whole week.
-
Its overcast and warmish here today.. above 60 degrees!
-
I hope its nice out tomorrow. I wanna run and play some soccer and basketball to get in a little better shape for track.
-
Thats a good goal for the day!
-
Yup and do some sit ups and push ups since i stoped doiong them

Lake Kraner..IN the middle of winter. lol what the heckk lots of rain last week
-
Yep Lots of rain.. Is that your wood pile ?
-
Why yes it is Karen. That whole wood pile got emptied and went downstairs to burn. Then we found a place where they just take and dump trees and we are aloud to just go split and cut as much as we want. the place has LTOS OF TREES. The other one is still there.
-
Looks like a tad more then a cord...Thats cool you can go there for wood!
-
Snowing right now. Weather's crazy..
-
Wow... snowing.. overcast cloudy and rainy and cold here!
-
rain rain rain !!
RYAN !!...how much land do you guys have ?
It always amazes me how much land you guys enjoy !!...if you came here...it would freak you how little land we have each !
-
I can't believe how many homes are all around you guys in the UK.... That is wall to wall neighbors! There are places here like that too. Which is why I like it where I am.. really just a handful of neighbors but my plot is two acres, and that is tiny, most people have 20 to two hundred acres especially as there is a lot of farming here and people who have bought 1 home and a lot of forest area uncleared!
-
Yes as ben said it did snow today, there was a nice big helping of a dusting on the ground and it all melted and its not even 30 degrees?
And we only have an acre neil
-
Snow melted.....:(
-
Today is a balmy 30degrees here.. that's celsius, so about 86 in your language.. that is mild for us, last week we had a couple of 40 (104)+ days, which is normal for summer here but I still prefer the milder days like today.
-
I feel bad. I live in a 4-plex - four large apartments in one building. And the temperature is cold. It was 25° F last night and getting colder tomorrow. This is Texas, for God's sake!!!! Tonight will be only 40°F as there is a large amount of cloud cover.
-
It's cold!!! I'm not sure how low it's supposed to be tonight, but it's already down to 38. This is Florida, for God's sake!!! I need my sunshine & warmth!! [:(!]
-
Lol. Go live in Fargo or International Falls. Start complaining then people! lol. Well it didn't get above 25 today. Purdy windy too so the snow that we did get tried drifting a little bit, and it makes it really cold outside. This weekend is gonna be really cold. Single Digit lows and teen highs!
-

Haha I wouldn't do that. I'm not sure what the wind chills got to last night, but right now its 12 degrees with -4 wind chill so I'm thinking they caught way down there
-
Your making me nervous! That is so cold!! I have never been in weather that cold and fear I would not like it much without a nice warm house and fire!
-
Don't worry Karen! lol. I haven't even went outside today. I'm to afraid cuz I don't have much clothes on and don't wanan change!
-
Good stay warm.. and dry Young man!
-
Yup. 16 degrees. Supposed to be a low of 5. Wind Chill of 0 right now.
-
It was 1 degree when I woke up this morning at 9 o clock!
Wind Chill hadda been down there.
Burr just a few weeks ago it was 60! We had some flurries yesterday too! Yay!
-
Nice.. I like that snow... Was it pretty?
-
Yeahh it was only very breif though. Lucky that I saw it. It was like when it rains with the sun out only with snow lol it was different
-
That is nice though.. I like that you said Lucky that you saw it. I believe thats true so much lately!
-
Yup! 14 degrees for the high and the wind chill still ain't above 0!!!
It is very nice and sunny here thouhg!
-

-
It's minus 30 C here !!
-
-30 c =________ F?
-
that's like aorund 0 i think
and yay 2 more minutes of sunlight a day now!
-
LOL.. I'd say zero is pretty cold. I have never met zero before! LOL!
-
you haven't? lucky
-
I see. I love the snow
-
No big suprise...it's raining!
Just checked one of the local canals and it appears to be about 5 foot higher than normal, and in places the banks are 12 foot wider than normal. We have in the last two months had this reinforced with 150 tonnes of rubble, but I expect it to burst in the next day or two if the rain continues.
I expect the next village to me, to flood within that time...
-
Its 11 degrees at 7:15 in the morning! With a wind chill of wow 11! No wind! Today it looking to be a good day. To bad I have to go cut wood and go to a stupid asthma class today! Atleast I MAY be getting the part for my cell phone!
-
I know I shouldn't complain, especially since it's 11 degrees where Ryan is.....but I'm going to because this is Florida and it's 27!!!!! I'm FREEZING!!!
-
Carolyn you here what it was for the kick off game for the Packers and Giants? lol. Now that was cold. Wow 27 in flordia? lol i guess you can complain lol
-
Have you made a record Carolyn??!
-
I don't think so Ryan. It has been colder here.
In 1989 we had temps in the low 20's and did have some snow at Christmas time. It wasn't a pleasant experience.
My hibiscus trees froze! [:-'(]
-
Burr no records. Darn! Nothing to show for it then!

Do you think they are goners? i am sorry bout that freezes like that can sure do that!
-
It got around 30 today! haha. Snow tonight and tomorrow!
-
I'd say we have between a dusting and an inch of snow on the ground! No 2 hour delay though. Darn.
-
Well we had a solid freeze last night.. it was quite cold!.. Still frost on the ground!41 degrees and almost 10:00 am..

No, I'm pretty sure they'll come back. They have in the past, they were just really big and now it'll take a while for them to get that big again. I may have lost my desert roses though. I've been babying those for 2 years now...it may be 3.....I can't remember. They took a hard hit and I'm not sure they'll survive. They like it dry and hot.
-
It's nice out today. In the 50's, but tomorrow it's supposed to be down in the 20's again. I'm going to stop complaining though. Extreme temperatures are very good for our business.
-
Since this meant to be a scientific website can I ask why none of you seem to be including units with the temperature measurements?
OK, I know you are going to say it's obvious from the context; no it's not. My dad could have said "I'd say zero is pretty cold. I have never met zero before!" when he first went to university; what he and a friend (also from Kenya) actually said to their new found friends was "I have never seen snow before".
BTW, -30C is well below 0F, I think it's about -22F which raises the question "Where are you that's so cold neilp?"
-
Karen, i don't think John intended any offence with his post, after reading it several times, i am positive he did not.
For some time i have been debating (with myself) if this topic would be more suited to the chat section, and i think it really should be moved there.
The topic itself, is a good one, and if sim wants to start a new topic in the environment section i would encourage him to. Members could then post a daily 'weather summery' giving their temperature, weather conditions, rainfall etc. This would make interesting reading as the years went by.
-
its cold damp and windy ................ [^]
-
Sounds as if you are here in Texas - cold, windy and foggy At least the wind is from Northern Canada, not the Atlantic Ocean.
-
-30 c =________ F?
= minus 22 farenheit.
Today it's minus 47 farenheit......it's a bit chilly !

Don't mind me!...the extreme cold is a manifestation of my fantasy world [:)]

Sorry if I accidentally caused any offence back there. It' just that, without a unit, people like me who usually deal in C and K get muddled when people talk in F.

1/24/08 Right now its a bone-chilling 25 degrees with icy parking lots and light snow fall. Tomorrow morning though it's supposed to go way down to 12 degrees (HIGH OF 20). Oh how I love living in the mid-atlantic!!! [:P]
-
Topic reinstated at the request of Sim...enjoy!
-
there was a town a slight way north of here that reached -40 last week (which cooincidentally happens to be the temp at which F and C are the same.
Yikes its been COLD here lately!!!!
-
Farmer. Can you just tell us a state? cuz that is just confusing ha
-
Its been beautiful here today in Northern California.
-
Gorgeous weather here the last few days. Around 70F (give or take a few degrees) and sunny.
-
Weathers been crazy. That's all I can say. Idk how to explain it and i don't have no pictures..
-
It's 45 Celsius here..that's about 113 Fahrenheit....I may have to turn the heating off!
-

Surely you jest!
It's 68F/20C and cloudy here. We're expecting severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and possible tornadoes later in the evening.
-
It was overcast early here and then burned off and the sun shined the rest of the day very nicely! Cool in the morning and warm for the day!
-
My Sims now got weather. I got The Sims 2 Seeaons on Saturday. idk when i'm gonna play it, but ya. and the laptop is fixed, but its not mine no more its moms
-
So now you can incorporate weather in your sims situations eh???
-
So now you can incorporate weather in your sims situations eh???
Infinite possibilites I'm sure.
-
That could effect tons of situations in the game.. It sounds like a nice upgrade!
-
Farmer. Can you just tell us a state? cuz that is just confusing ha
you mean where I live?
Minnesota
Or do you mean a state of matter? I've been quite gassy lately [:o)]
did that answer your question? I'm not sure what you were confused about...
-
LOL LOL!
-
you mean where I live?
Minnesota
Minnesota was my guess, but i could only find a low of -15 for that week. Do you remember the halloween of..1991?
Anyway, how is the snow? You have has quite a few extremes this winter.
-
snow's better than its been for the past few years.... but still nothing like I remember having on a regular basis growing up. either global warming is real... or 2 feet of snow seemed like a mountain when you're only 3 feet tall :)
-
Ya we got a ltitle bit of snow to give us a two hour delay
-
Temp here this morning is +9F (-13C). Feels like a heat-wave comapred to what we've had recently. Its such a gorgeous day outside. Reminds me why I live in this part of the country.
-
72F & wet! We're under severe thunderstorm and flood warnings till tomorrow morning.
-
I saw the radar..looks purdy bad
-
Yeah for here to.. Supposed to be a real big storm coming in.. and right now it is very very cold.. My thermometer broke so I don't know how cold it is.. The Previous storms took it out and the wind slammed it down and it quit working!
-

Sim,
If those figures are forecasts from different sources ,IE the weather on the news, the newspaper, etc. Then the thing to do is get an average of the four figures and that will not be too far off.
If they are the figures from the link you have posted today, then each figure IS correct.
Predicting the volume of snow fall, is one of the hardest forecasts to make. Have a read of this, from your neighbouring state: http://www.climate.umn.edu/snow_fence/
Another thing you need to watch out for is the qpf forecast (Quantative Precipitation). If you want to learn more about the weather, then i can PM you a link to an excellent podcast.

Yeah. It could be the strongest winds since the Oct '87 hurricane. Tens of millions of £ of damage was done that night all across southern England.
-
Doc That sounds scary! I have have been in winds over 101 miles and hour and those winds can scare the soup out of you! Please be safe..
-
Yeah. It could be the strongest winds since the Oct '87 hurricane. Tens of millions of £ of damage was done that night all across southern England.
firstly, it was NOT a hurricane. Secondly, why am i posting in chat?
-
Because this got moved for The Enviroment section, of course why else! ha

No, it got moved from the recycle bin. Why else? well for starters.....
-
Yeah. It could be the strongest winds since the Oct '87 hurricane. Tens of millions of £ of damage was done that night all across southern England.
firstly, it was NOT a hurricane. Secondly, why am i posting in chat?
I'm aware of that, but that's how it's commonly known.
Anyway, we didn't get any strong winds last night. It was very breezy, but that's all. Apparently further south got it worse and so did Wales.
-
Haha yeah it did.
-
It is cold, stormy here and very wet too, it is worrying me as I am near the window. It is the same for the whole of the UK now and the
storms are going to get worse or so the forecasters have said.
Also the weather is caused by the Spring High tides and in the midst of
"storm Johanna" and we had the earthquake, a few weeks ago.
http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/warnings.asp
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ukweather/warnings.shtml
-
The spring tides are not causing the weather, they just happen to be combinig with the wind, thus making tides higher.
-
We have an East wind here in Scotland, so the centre is South of here somewhere.
People to the South of the centre will be in the dangerous quadrant and getting the worst of it.

Weather was REALLY great this time on vacation! Coudln't ask for anything better, maybe just a few more clouds. Ha

Very windy and about to get very wet. We're under flood warnings as Tropical Storm Fay is expected to cross Florida this evening and go back into the Gulf and by tomorrow evening hit us directly. Schools have been cancelled for tomorrow. We saw one report that said once it hits the Gulf that it may strengthen and turn into a category 1 hurricane, but haven't seen any other reports to that affect. Crossing my fingers and toes that it doesn't although the waterspouts, tornados and flooding that come with tropical storms are pretty bad.
Wish this stupid storm would just fizzle and die already! [:(!]
-
I saw that, took a crazy turn. Hopefully everything will be okay!
-
Yes Ryan I agree that the Tropical Storm Fay fizzles out where
Carolyn lives. Before the end of Friday.

We have had a bit of rain, the garden was needing it as it doesn't rain much in Scotland in the summer. Spare a thought for the idiot that took that picture, he was in about 8" of water.
That reminds me, I need some new door seals.

Looks somewhat like my place at this moment - over 1/2" rain in the rain gauge in the past hour.
-
It is pretty damp in London as most of the Uk this summer I think. That is if the forecasters are right.
-
Its been an overcast hot day today and the sun finally is out and it is very warm!
-
The weather here wasn't as bad as expected. We were under flash flood warnings today, were supposed to get 5 inches per hour for 3 - 4 hours, but it didn't happen, only moderate wind and rains. It was nasty last night, had a tree limb ggo through hubbys truck window, but fortunately that was the worst of it.
-
Glad you were all ok! Sorry about the truck window! will insurance cover natural disaster kind of things?
-
Thanks Karen.
I'm sure our insurance will cover it, but we have a high deductible, so it will be cheaper to pay for it out of pocket. LOL......it's his old work truck. The window probably costs more than the trucks worth.
-
Don't you hate that? How are you feeling with all the storming? Are you OK?
-
LOL...yep, I do hate it!
I'm ok. Trying to recover from having walking pneumonia, and having lots of lovely fibro pain, I'm assuming from the rain, but I'm ok. Thanks for asking.
-
I am glad you are OK.. Please be careful with that Pneumoniae, that is one of the bacteria's commonly found in walking pneumoniae that I have hand in hand with another.. real butt kickers! Sorry for your pain.. I hope the rain stops for you to get a break.. My leaves on my Catalpa are starting to slightly change color I believe we are in for early winter this year!

Paul why do Tropical Storms have male names and hurricanes have female ones? I have never had to live with that type of storm
The first tropical cyclone was named by an Australian after a politician that he did not like, then during the second world war they were given the names of the wives / girlfriends of the navys meteorological staff. Then in the early 50's they were named phonetically, then by only womens names all the way up to 1979 when they were named after both men and women.
Saying that, different regions have different ways of naming their storms.

Paul your explanation makes loads of sense and it's interesting as well.

Did you know that when Fay was over the everglades she became the first (recorded) tropical storm to gain strength?
I'm not sure what you mean Paul. I'm sure I'm misunderstanding what you're saying. How can it be the first recorded tropical storm to gain strength?
-
Today our weather is nice and sunny.
I'm sick and tired of hurricane season! Normally, I'm not one to worry or stress over it, and I detest the people that are continually predicting and spouting doom and gloom, but Hurricane Gustav really has me worried. We are thankfully out it it's projected path, though that changes daily. It's now a category 3 and according to The Weather Channel, it's predicted to become a category 4 hurricane.
If it hits anywhere closer than Louisianna we will still be severely affected.

Hey, if i made sense more than once a day there would be a cosmic event of catastrophic proportions!
I mean, Fay was the only recorded TS to gain strength over land. Typically, due to the friction and the looss of the storms heat engine (water/ocean) they slow down, but Fay actually gained strength, not much, but gain it did.

Duh! Sorry, had a major blonde moment! I don't know what I was thinking! I do recall heariing something about that on the news now that you mention it.

One of Fay's squall lines when it passed over us in St. Simons.

Glad we are going to have nothing to do with Gustav.
Good luck Carolyn. Here is to it missing you.

Well today in England we finally had a summers day. The family have been dining with Mr Al Fresco tonight and very good company he was. Freddy has been swimming in our pond, clearing some free water for the dragon and damsel flies of which I am a big fan and have designed my garden around. He was very pleased as one large green dragonfly went right up to his face and looked him right in the eye. Fred said that he was saying thankyou.
-
It was a summer's day here as well. But, with Gustav on the way to this area by tomorrow night or Monday when the outer bands will reach this area, I think we are n for a small amount of precipitation. The storm is likely to satll here in Central Texas. Oh, what a wonderful week(s) ahead.

Stay safe JimBob. Hope that it misses us both!

Carolyn Is the Hurricane Gustav that is at present battering Cuba
going to make you have to evacuate from your home? Hope not.

Nope. We were without power this morning and have had one or two little tornados, but I think/hope all we're going to get some nasty wind and rain.

Oh dear that sounds rather nasty but you've had to live through
these storms/hurricanes before.

Seems old Gusty has claimed a few lives already. Thank goodness New Orleans has been evacuated this time. I hope they don't have such a bad time this time.

Sharon not exactly because now the New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagal (sp)
has put a dusk to dawn curfew. Having asked the citizens to leave
the city.

It is going to get very bad for New Orleans. The levees are still in bad shape as the plan to bring them up to standards that could stand a direct hit is in its third year of implementation - third year of a ten year plan.
Also, the area in which most work has been done is the area of the damage caused by the last hurricane. This will not be the area mos adversely affected with this storm. Last time the east bank was most damaged. This time the west bank is the area expected to receive the worst damage while part of the east bank, although not as badly hit , will still be quite severely damaged.
It just doesn't look good for New Orleans.
All we will get here is a lot of rain after landfall and possible a few tornados: nothing compared to what the poor people over there will suffer. And it will cause problems for the US - and world - economy for quite a while. It all has to do with oil and refining. The area that will be hit is the largest concentration of refining in the US and possibly the world. So prices for all petroleum and petroleum products will increase dramatically.
And the northern part of the US will suffer this winter as there will be no way to replace the heating oil that would have been refined in the area that will take the brunt of the storm.

Looks like New Orleans made it through this time.
Huzzah!

That is wonderful!

Raining in Paignton at the moment, filling up my rainwater harvesting system nicely. Behind every dark cloud there is a silver lining. Temperature dropped off last 2 days, not reaching freezing yet at least.

Rain in the southwest and west will extend northeastwards this evening, turning heavy in places. Clearer conditions, with occasional rain and hail showers will arrive in Munster and Connaught early tonight. Rain affecting Leinster and Ulster will clear as the night goes on but blustery rain or hail showers will persist in Munster and Connaught. Turning colder overnight but frost is unlikely, owing to fresh or strong winds veering from southeast to southwest. Lowest temperatures 4 to 8 degrees Celsius.

Patchy rain in the west and north will turn persistent later this evening and will spread to remaining areas overnight. Lowest temperatures 4 to 8 degrees, in a freshening southwest wind.

Jim there has already been snow here but it was freezing then,
today it is quite warm for mid-November's "usual" forecast's standards. I reckon.
Then my point of view of this is from North London.

I guess I am rather lucky living in the subtropics.
