Cows have regional accents, experts confirm
In a major breakthrough in bovine linguistic research, experts have confirmed that cows moo with accents distinct to their herd, the BBC reports.
John Wells, professor of Phonetics at the University of London, examined West Country farmers' claims that their beasts were mooing with a local twang.
Lloyd Green of Glastonbury said: "I spend a lot of time with my ones and they definitely moo with a Somerset drawl. I've spoken to the other farmers in the West Country group and they have noticed a similar development in their own herds. It works the same as with dogs - the closer a farmer's bond is with his animals, the easier it is for them to pick up his accent."
Professor Wells confirmed Green's observations, explaining: "This phenomenon is well attested in birds. You find distinct chirping accents in the same species around the country. In small populations such as herds you would encounter identifiable dialectical variations which are most affected by the immediate peer group."

That is interesting and I have heard about this with other animals. I did not know however how much research is really being put into it.Very amusing really!

Who knows!LOL I really do think it makes since, why not, people all have different dialects tones and sound, why not accents.. Could even be genetic thing don't you think! Hadrian, Do you think it is purely Geographical though, or do you think it is more a group or cultural thing with the cows??

So that's why the Cow I was chatting up was giving me the big brown soppy puzzled eye look...I'm from North London and the cow was from up North !!....Sheesh...regional dialects ruined my date !!
Actually, accents have been discussed here many times...and also with regard to regional accents in the animal kingdom too....it's very interesting stuff.
.Thanks Hadrian.

Yes it is, do you remember where those discussions are located?

I'm really lame when it comes to accents, I blame it on not actually having one myself

Me too, Ihave a hard time telling where someone is from, because I am not good at picking them out!
Karen

I get terribly confused and have to embarrassingly ask where the person is from.
Although I know an Irish accent when I hear it...hard not to, I think it's the sexiest though

I've personally always had a thing for those brit accents. Growing up I always pictured myself marrying someone from England. Instead I married a damn yankee from Detroit, MI. Oh well, what he lacks in accent he more than makes up for in the b.....err, elsewhere.

Are you thinking the type of British accent like in films?
The very posh accent
