Title: How do the valves operate in racing engines
Post by: syhprum on 18/04/2010 13:38:56
During my lifetime the maximum revs on racing engines have gone up from 6000 rpm to at least 20000 rpm how is it managed ?
Daimler Benz experimented with Desdromonic operation in the fifties but this proved to be a dead end.

It has mostly achieved by lightening the parts and making them to very high tolerances so that the moving parts can be balanced to a very high degree.  The Honda 5 cylinder 125 cc racing motorcycles of the early/mid 1960s used to rev to 22000 rpm.
