Title: To molecules or atoms have colour?
Post by: Raghavendra on 18/03/2009 07:11:21

1) do molecules/atoms have color !! if not why visible light shows color of different wavelength, and frequency.

2) consider our universe was not black !!! what was the possibilites? would there be a atoms,

3) Do you agree that our universe is black so it has atoms ? what force exists behind?

Mod edit - yet another subject changed to be a question.  Please make sure you do this in future.

The phenomenon of colour is simply the receptors on our eyes sending electrical impulses to the brain when they are struck with a certain wavelength of light. The brain simply maps this out into images and colours.

As to whether a single atom has colour, that depends on whether it absorbs any particular wavelength of energy. Read: Absorption Spectrum and Emission Spectrum

I don't understand why you think the universe is black.
