Title: Korean cloned dog
Post by: ROBERT on 22/12/2005 14:00:11
I have just read an article on the first Korean cloned dog, which was called "Snuppy".

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4742453.stm

Surely the first Korean cloned dog should have been called something like "2nd course" or "2nd helping".

On the subject of our canine friends...

It is Christmas, so remember,

a dog isn't just for Christmas...in Korea it's for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Bad news - it seems that some of this work was apparently a fake [:0]

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/4554422.stm

If it turns out that his work is widely based on false data it will be a heavy blow for medical science, particularly in Korea.

Pity it's a fake - the first link certainly made me paws for thought.

(I know, I know, I'll get my coat ...)

And do you by any chance know what Snuppy might mean in Korean?

"Snuppy" is short for Seoul National University, where the work was "allegedly" carried out !

I suspect that Prof. Hwuang will now be dogged by critics and journalists since his resignation over corrupt scientific practices.

I can see it now - he's in his lab pondering a lack of results and he says to his assistant - "Make me a cloned dog - I'm in a hurry, so make it Snuppy..."

The carcass of Dolly, the first cloned mammal, has been preserved for posterity:-
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/2930537.stm

Snuppy will also be stuffed:
by a taxidermist if he is the first cloned dog,
by a Korean chef if he is not.[:p]

Does anyone fancy a hot dog ?:-

PS
Dolly the sheep was named after the busty C&W singer
Dolly Parton, as she was cloned from breast tissue,
(the sheep that is, not the singer).

Sounds like Woof Justice to me, or maybe he is not really a bone a find researcher and will now be shown the Lab rat door. and will be lucky to earn K9 a year, while making his worst Korea Move :)

I dunno, first Rover gets the bullet from the East, and Now Snuppy gets the bullet from the West, sounds like every ones chasing each others tales these days. Hope they got plenty of Poo Bags for all this crap.[:o)][:D][B)]

Andrew - I should boxer your ears for some of those puns!
So, Hwang's data was a load of shi-tzu, eh? Perhaps he should be pekinese subjects more carefully. It was a rottie thing to do, though. And it certainly throws a spaniel into the works.

Chris your joke about a dog in Korea is for Breakfast was so bad it was unbearably good, hope its not copy sensitive as I have distributed it to friends. Eth, put my gum shield in. Sorta reminds me of a lamented song from the Kinks, way back in the good old days. titled "Let's all drink to the death of a clone" However, I did hear of someone crossing a Shi-tzu with a bulldog, and ended up with a litter of bullshi-tz.[:0]

Anyway, Ive got some bad news. I think Ive caught that damned Bird Flue. I am talking a load of crap recently, wearing makeup, and Can't park the friggin car to save my life.[:X][:X][:X][:X]

Apparently Snuppy IS a clone:-

(So he has an appointment with the Taxidermist, not the chef).

Without being too dogmatic. Dr Hwang has cloned the first canine human hybrid using the stem cells from a blacksmith.

It was stated in his published paper that. every time Hwang kicked the dog up the ass it made a bolt for the door [:o)]
