Title: Fun With Old Glasses

The lenses are still in good shape, but they're way
too heavy and I always hated the way they left deep marks
on the sides of my nose.....

So I got the tools out (hacksaw, file and pliers)....

Next I bent a piece of wire to get the spacing right....

Then I cut down the rounded lenses to make them
small rectangular lenses (reducing the weight by
about 2/3) and filed grooves along the sides....

Then a quick single mock-up....

.....to make sure the spacing is correct....

Last is the final bend of a single length of (now
polished) stainless steel wire (about 1/4 the
weight of the original frames)....

....with many slight adjustments for proper allignment....

And they're done! Perfect for the computer, at home
reading and watching television, and so light I can barely
feel them on my nose, very comfortable really....

I'm pretty sure most of optometry is a scam.  I used to wear big astigmatism glasses for 20-70 (6/18 metric), then flimsy toric soft contact lenses, then smaller but deeper hard contact lenses; I was told the hard contacts reshaped the eye somewhat.  The lenses were a pain so that suggestion gave me the idea that I could squeeze my eyeballs into sharpness, and so I did with my thumb and forefinger several times until they were left permanently sharp.

Hah! That's a very interesting solution.... you could be the worlds first "Optometric Chiropractor" employing "corrective manual ocular massage". Would that be an Optomepractor, or a Chirometrist?

Thanks.... glad you like them. I used to like working with wire, it's amazing what you can do just sitting at the kitchen table with a hacksaw, a pair of needlenose pliers, a file and a screwdriver. It's like drawing with metal (and in this case a little scrap plastic and bicycle parts)....

THEY LOOK ERRIFFIC! i have an old pair of my Great great grandmas hat I love the shape lke your rectangular size and shape except the sharp corners have been cut like those of an octogone but Id say same size as yours..I love them but perscriptions are way off!!lol...Nice job..They fit your facial features well....look good on you!
