I have back ache !
I'm pretty sure it's from my posture from sitting here typing these posts !..
Do you think sleeping on the floor would help ?
Is it a fallacy that sleeping on a hard surface is good for your spine ?

I heard many times from people, and once from a doctor, that it's good for your back but i dont know why.

you could try one of those new-fangled "memory foam" mattresses, if you have plenty of cash to spare:-

Bergin says the memory foam mattress is best for anyone with back pain or osteoarthritis. The term "memory foam" is often misunderstood. It doesn't mean the mattress remembers the contours of your body but that the mattress returns to its original flat plane once you get up. Memory foam is made of heat and pressure sensitive material that responds to your body temperature and conforms to near-perfect pressure, weight distribution, and support.
"It gets as close to weightless sleep as possible," says Bergin. "It supports the entire body at all the pressure points as though you're floating. It really is a remarkable discovery. Unfortunately a high-quality mattress that will last 20 years without being flipped is high priced, about $1,800 to $2,500."
He recently bought a Tempur-Pedic mattress, which uses the memory foam developed by NASA.
A number of manufacturers make memory foam mattresses or top conventional mattresses with a layer of it. "

My mummy has a tempura mattress....I think i'll surreptitiously ' borrow ' it next time I'm round there...she won't mind ! [:D]

If the above is true I would not wish to sleep on the same mattress for "20 years", no matter how much it cost.

Hey Neil, They have memory foam pads that you can put on top of your mattress..much cheaper and heard you can get one starting out at 99.00 to 200.00

They have at department stores here such as Target, Walmart, and more, but you maybe able to order them online? Oh, sure no problem, I can get you a new bed, ducky, and a horsey, car and I will draw you a house too...after you knit at least 10,000,000 or so Penguin booties! ;-)

My neighbour suffers from pagets disease which gives him a lot of pain. He tells me that putting a memory foam topper on top of his mattress has enabled him to sleep peacefully through the night.

yea these memory foam mattresses are superb, I suffer from sever low er back pain so I purchased a memory foam mattress and the difference it has made is unbelievable.

I recently interviewed my neighbour who is now in a lot of pain from his Pagets disease. I found that the topper he is using isn't memory foam at all but a very clever and cheaper alternative which still works surprisingly well.
