Holiday flu

Michelle asked the Naked Scientists:
Perhaps a holiday cold is not only due to jet lag.
I went to England from Ireland in 1976 (aged 23) and was ill for awhile - nothing specific, just not great on and off.
We went to France in 1983 and were sick for awhile (24 hour high fevers, diahorrea and general not feeling great).
My private theory is that the bugs are a wee bit different in different countries and cause the problems that are attributed to air travel.
Regards,
Michelle
