Title: Why do I feel tired all the time?
Post by: yukmouth on 28/10/2005 23:56:00
I am a 30 year old female who has been tired all the time.  I visited with my doctor and explained to him what was going on.  He did some lab work on me.  Everything came back okay.  He checked my iron, he checked my thyroid, he said my liver was good, my kidneys are okay I dont recall what kind of test he did.  but he said everything was fine.  I just don't understand, if everything is fine, why do i still feel so tired.  I don't do very strenuous activities, I never finish my housework like i used to.  I take meds for ADD (innatentive type) and for depressiion.  They are straterra and effexor.  I have been taking those for almost a year now.  But here lately, i guess within the last 6 months or so, I am tired all the time.  I just started a job where I have only worked one day for 10 hours (5p to 330a) once.  The day I worked those hours when I got home I thought I was going to die!  (Not Literaly)  Could someone offer some suggestions of what else I should ask my doctor to test?  Sometimes I think he gets lazy with his research.

Besides the depression, you could still have problems with your thyroid.  My hair was falling out, gaining weight, feeling tired, etc. and two docs said my numbers were within the normal range. I looked everything up and found that all my numbers were in the normal range alright, but all of them were borderline hypothyroid.  So I found a doc that would help me and he gave me a prescription for thyroid.  I'm not so tired, my hair is growing back and it's thicker than it has been in years and dieting is easier now.  Could also be the Effexor though.  Antidepressants are good about that.  Hope you find out what your problem is and fix it!

have u looked at ur diet? i am tired all the time and feel crap a lot. I thought I might be diabetic as I had all the symptoms. I looked at my diet and realised I haven't eaten any fruit or veg for 5 years.

So now I make sure I eat 5 fruit and veg a day and I feel a lot better for it. I feel happier, more alert, I can concentrate more and I feel less tired.

You might look into yoga or western mind control like RET--rational emotive therapy--from the Dr. Albert Ellis website--good place to find relaxation tapes, books, etc.  It is non-profit.

Mental exertion can also make you tired. ADD/ADHD causes your brain to work overtime and thus contributes to mental exhaustion. Depression likewise. They could well be factors.

Yukmouth, I bet you live in a river valley area or close to the sea?

I think the tale is told by the meds.

It may be time to look into scaling them back, with doctor's approval of course, and upping your exercise looking for some natural stimulation.

As suggested, make the obvious alterations in your diet by cutting out dairy and other sluggish foods in a weekly rotation to see if you feel a little better.

Give yourself lots of time and be moderate.

Age effects at 30 ... I don't think so.

Oh and another thought.  Have you moved lately?  I am thinking about something in your home or work environment.

I would start acting in two directions:
Vitamins, they can never harm you and natural anti-depressants, since tiredness can be caused by depression.

Vitamins, they can never harm you

Not quite - overdose of vitamin D can cause hypercalcaemia, and overdosing on vitamin A can cause blurred vision, bone pain, GI disturbance and a range of other symptoms. Eating too many carrots (beta-carotene) won't poison you, but it will make you go orange for a while...

Could be lots of things. Dehydration, sleep apnea, zinc deficiency, ME, lack of exercise, protein deficiency, diabetes even things like stress, depression, vitamin D deficiency etc. etc.
