Title: black iron oxide

i was told that you can microwave wire wool to make black iorn oxide, but will it be safe?

It won't hurt you as long as you leave the wire wool for a while to cool down afterwards, but it may well weld bits of wire wool to the inside fo the microwave, and don't leave the microwave on for too long as you may get things very hot that aren't supposed to be.
