Do you take great pleasure in pointing out when someone has made the very slightest of errors?
You, and everyone else, know exactly what a piece of script means, but there is one tiny aspect which could be misconstrued, which you delight in bringing to the attention of one and all.
E.g. Someone writes 'Leaving on a jet plane' was released as a single by Peter, Mary & Paul'. You feel an uncontrollable urge to point out that the trio were known as Peter, Paul & Mary.
If you have a FOGGY interlude, please punctuate your FOGGINESS with the legend 'FOG' or risk being derided by the
Fantom Forum Foggers!
Yes, thank you, I know how to spell 'phantom' FOG

I am a FOG and a self-confessed pedant. I hereby assign to highlight FOGGINESS whereverhence it appears! (Like I wasn't going to anyway!). Do we get extra marks for level of FOGdom?
-
Me too. How else are we going to maintain standards? These, like everything else around us, are being eroded - we really are all going to hell in a handcart, or is it hand-cart?

Beaverish FOG reporting for duty!

I'm sorry but I'm a TOG and I'm not sure you can be both.

TOG? Tart On Gin? [:D]

Don,
I hate to be a FOG, but the preferred way to write a song title - or any other title for that matter - is to enclose it in double quotes, i.e., " ... " and to capitalize all except the participles.
Thus, the correct way to refer to the song is "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and I would also point out that the song was written and first recorded by John Denver.
(The double quotation is preferred as it is not as easily confused with the other uses of a single quotation mark, such as the use of a single quote as an apostrophe.)

Oh, reporting for duty along with my understudy (or under-study,) The Beaver.
-
JimBob - "Leaving on a Jetplane" was indeed written by John Denver but the first recording was by The Mitchell Trio (1967). (FOG)

No Terry's old Girls.
I like Terry Wogan.

GOOD WORK! You will make as excellent a FOG as I am one day! I put that in to see who might be astute enough to see the error. Again, WELL DONE, LAD!

Ah!!! Wonderful!!!
My screen is fogging up nicely.
JimBob, John Denver, as you correctly wrote was indeed the author of 'Leaving on a Jet Plane'. Single quotation marks saves on quotation marks. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr in Roswell, New Mexico 31/12/43. Thought I'd add that, since you picked-up on it. (FOG)

"Leaving on a Jet Plane" is a song written by John Denver in 1967 during a layover at an airport in Washington and recorded by the Mitchell Trio that year. The original title of the song was "Oh Babe I Hate To Go" but Denver's then producer, Milt Okun, convinced him to change the title. Denver wrote the song after his flight was delayed. Other artists recorded the song in 1967, including Spanky & Our Gang and Peter, Paul and Mary on Album 1700. It did not become a hit until Peter, Paul and Mary released it as a single in 1969. It turned out to be their biggest (and final) hit, becoming their only #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States The song also spent three weeks atop the easy listening chart. John Denver had a smile as wide as a Cheshire cat and I should know being from Cheshire.

NO! I'm not a Finicky Old Git, I'm too young to be one. If we are talking mental age then I'm more of an adolescent, which would make me a ...ahermmmm, Ok then, FOG it is!
In my capacity as a recent member of the FOG community, I would like to point out this error by the Grand FOG Master:

Shouldn't the comma go after the "Jr", and before the word "in"?

Actually, commas are no longer required around Jr. and Sr. If they were still required then there should be a comma before and after Jr., and Jr. should have a period after it!

Well, yesterday it was desperately FOGGY, but today, it's just me. If you'd like to see a bit of Freiburg, here is a webcam that you can control from your PC! (You may have to wait your turn, but

Perhaps one of the FOGs could answer this question: Is there a grammatically correct time to use "horrid" as opposed to "horrible"? They are both adjective forms, and are apparently synonyms, but in a sentence "The weather was horrid." to me sounds almost childish when compared to "The weather was horrible." and hence the latter sounds correct. But for the life of me, I don't know why. Any thoughts?
-
I think either would be acceptable. The 'horrid' option is more economical with letters.
-
I see that there is an ever increasing number of members in and around London! Or are these markers for "FUN" ("FOGs' Underground Network") where specially trained FOGsters are doing their work?

Stone me!!! That's a lot of FOG. Seems I've been wasting my time cleaning the windows!!!

I see that bloody X Factor has finished at last. This song that's been released smacks to me of a typical move by the recording company to monopolise on the season rather than spend on a decent original song.
I heard it for the first time today, 'Hallelujah', I wonder if the 'Hallelujah Chorus' might have been somewhat inspirational in this, and if you listen to the guitar riff, doesn't REM's 'Everybody Hurts' come to mind?
Plagiarised, profiteering rubbish. FOG FOG FOG.

He COULDN'T, you nitwit !!!! American Express didn't start their card service until October 1, 1958. Thus, as the story of Mr. Phileas Fogg's trip starts on the day of October 2, 1872, he could not have taken an AmEx Card around the world as American Express was still confining their operations primarily to the State of New York. Well MIL(F) said he forgot his Visa!

Then she deserves to be properly FOG'ed but she would probably enjoy it, overriding the purpose of such castigation.

I love it. In an early Star Trek TNG episode they find Data's brother Lore. Lore is really bad, older than Data and uses contractions but is otherwise identical. In the final fight scene Data beams Lore off the ship into space (apparently between the hull and shields as the shields are up) after the fight Riker asks Data if he's OK Data says "I'm Fine" I saw this and thought "oh crap" but no one noticed and the episode ended.
Don't you think there would be safety devises that would prevent beaming anyone outside the ship into space? I see a lot of things happen in sci-fi that could easily be avoided with safety precautions. Often you see a person ejected into space by opening an airlock. In the space shuttle the door outside opens in which prevents it being opened if the airlock is pressurized.
