Hi , which is cheapest odourless organic solvent other than Water ?
-
I'm afraid water is not organic, mate.
-
NaCl(s) + H2O(l)?
-
What's that for?
-
Do you mean organic as in containing carbon, or in the modern conception of natural (as in organic vegetables)?

C4M is on the button. Things are only organic if they have a carbon basis.
-
What's that for?
Saline solution? It's not strictly water...
-
I was gonna say VINEGAR but It is not odorless and I have no idea if it is organic by any of the criteria mentioned above.
-
Yes, it contains ethanoic acid, CH3COOH.
-
Is that Yes its organic..or not?
-
Yes, ethanoic acid is organic, it contains carbon atoms. [:)]

Thanks!

Organic -
# relating or belonging to the class of chemical compounds having a carbon basis; "hydrocarbons are organic compounds"
# being or relating to or derived from or having properties characteristic of living organisms; "organic life"; "organic growth"; "organic remains found in rock"
# involving or affecting physiology or bodily organs; "an organic disease"
# of or relating to foodstuff grown or raised without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides or hormones; "organic eggs"; "organic vegetables"; "organic chicken"
# simple and healthful and close to nature; "an organic lifestyle"
# a fertilizer that is derived from animal or vegetable matter
# constituent(a): constitutional in the structure of something (especially your physical makeup)

If you want to be understood, you will have to specify which meaning of the word you are talking about. Saying that there is only one acceptable and true meaning for "organic" (the first in this list) results in science getting alienated from most other people. Do you want to communicate or do you want to be right while in company only with people like yourself?
-
There's the other half of the problem too.
Vinegar may be organic (by any of a number of definitions) but, from the point of view of candle wax, it isn't a solvent.
What do you want to dissolve?

Thanks Karsten There are certainly more meanings in your list that I am familiar with as organic...Thanks for making that point!

Urea! I think that's pretty cheap to make? [;D]

Not exactly odourless though, is it!!!
-
Yeah, that fact that the solvent has to be odourless is a major pain in the backside.

Why shouldn't it be odourless? Pure urea is.
However it's difficult that one could use it as solvent, since it's a solid substance...

Yes, and Petrol could also be used and it is cheaper than motor oil.
You can have used motor oil for nothing, or, you can even be paid to dispose of it! Do you have petrol for less than nothing in your area? Lucky people [:)]
-
Petrol is quite cheap in the UK, if you take out the duty, the VAT and the VAT on the duty!!!

Ah, so it's as here in Italy [:)]
Do you know that we still pay a tax for I world war (yes, it's the first WW, no mistake) when we buy petrol here in Italy? [>:(]
-
Only a very few years ago, I remember hearing that the British Government announced that they had paid off their loan from the USA for the First World War.
-
No matter what the tax on petrol is like, the smell writes it off as an answer to the OP.
